Yellowtail Kings on a Fizzer

Some of you may have seen on my last YTK report a comment from member NORUN NOFUN hoping I could test out a couple of his unique handmade timber lures on the local Kingfish population. I contacted him on his Facebook page "Scotty's Lures" and last week I flew home from work to find a neat package in the letterbox. To NORUN NOFUNs' credit, no more than 15hours from arriving in my letterbox, the lure was hanging from a fishes mouth. An explosion of whitewater erupted on the lure, the dual props proving irresistible to a pack of kings on the second cast of the morning.

Cheers Scotty for reaching out to me mate, really appreciate it and looking forward to getting out there again and giving it a flick.

Hey Beau, thanks mate, that

Hey Beau, thanks mate, that was pretty insane to send the lures and literally the next day have pictures and video of a YTK. You also have exceptional knowledge and skills with a rod and a camera so I really do appreciate what you have done. (The mrs saw the photo and said "does Beau have a split in his pants ? I looked and said "what split ? I have no idea, I cant stop looking at the Kingy", so a pretty savvy pick up by the FW crew above lol) What is also pretty damn good is meeting another FW member that I probably wouldn't have and can tell your a decent bloke so I am sure we will remain friends for along time to come and hopefully get out and have a cast together in the near future. I never made these lures with the intention to catch local Perth fish but to catch coral trout at the Monte's over shallow water bombie's for that insane top water strike and hold on for dear life experience, what's fascinates me is the versatility and the added bonus of another weapon (so to speak) for top water fishing. Since that video of the YTK I have had enquiries from the east coast, Fiji, Cook Islands, Indonesia, Youtubers across Australia asking me about the style of lure I make so to say I'm grateful would be an understatement. For someone who is not into social media, this feels overwhelming lol and have had to learn pretty damn quick. Many an hour goes into hand shaping a lure and no lure is exactly the same, so to produce some form of consistency and repeatability really is not easy, let alone the two years spent prototyping and developing that consistency. I am also working on a larger model for Beau and will have a prototype available in two weeks time for you to test out again mate, Bloody hell, I am excited just writing this lol and probably have not had this level of passion for fishing in quite a while. Cheers Scotty

Sounds crazy but have you got a patent on these.  Just in case some big lure company see it on the world wide web and pinch your design.

Hey Russ, no patent mate, the concept of fizzers has been around for many years with alot of different variations out there, I can think of the old ABU's, Bellbroooks, Wood Choppers that were made in the US from many many years ago, I believe around the 50's and 60's. The great thing about my lures is that not many lure makers have made these in a bigger size to chase reefie's and pelagics, like almost anything in fishing it has probably been done before to some extent.
I guess my version or take on these fizzers is what I previously knew about these lures but changed and adapted to the style of fishing I love and most of all created a handmade timber lure.

Awesome looking lures Scotty , can see a lot of love and effort in making them.

Funnily enough was showing my son and he said the only Herring he's caught on lure was using a  small  fizzer.

Hey Andy, thanks for the kind

Hey Andy, thanks for the kind words, really appreciated.
That's a classic with your son, they're always seems to be fizzer that sits in the tackle box of a fisherman that chased barra, sootie's, toga, yellowbelly, murray cod as they are such a versatile lure.
I have always loved top water fishing and wanted to adapt an idea that I thought could work, turns out the bigger fish love them too lol
It's pretty humbling to be able to hand shape an offcut of wood and then seeing that creation hanging out the end of a fish's mouth but also a little addictive and exciting haha.

Lol, he is a gun Andy and a good bloke as well, I have enjoyed chatting with Beau as he is not only been able to test the lures but has his input as well.
It would be silly of me to not listen to good feedback.
I can't wait to see more pictures of tuna, spanish, mahi and big smiles over this summer.

Hi Scotty. If you're up for it I'll gladly pay you for some of your lures to destroy up here on Thursday Island. There's plenty of voracious critters that love to smash a lure. I'm always looking for different ones to try.
