Yanchep & Two Rocks

Hi.

I'm heading up to either Yanchep or Two Rocks on Sunday and have not fished the area before.  Any suggestions on which area's to give a crack? and what can I expect fish wise?

Cheers.

i had a short sesh a while

i had a short sesh a while ago up there at yanchep lagoon,

the lagoon (dont remember it crystal clear, so dont quote me) is a beach with about 10metres of water with sand bottom which goes onto a shallow reef (ankle deep, although wouldnt go there in high swell) for about 5metres, at the end is a drop to about 10-15m.

got there a bit late according to all the locals who were on there way home (bout 9am). still threw out an unwaited mulie and waited, was about 15mins later i got a huge run, but somehow forgot i only had 15lb leader on (defenately a mulla) as no head shakes like the ray i hooked next, wouldve been about 30 seconds and i got the infamous tink from the leader snapping clean..... i just stared down straight into the water so none of the other blokes (who were looking at me with the bottom jaw in the ocean as they had probably been there since 5am and hadnt got a sniff) would see me curse. as i was looking down i could spot some sort of pipe (anyone know what it is) which i think he busted me on.

havent tried anywhere else up there, but good luck

mmm. ive found theres not a lot for something to bust you off on, up that way.. once youve gotten past the reef obviously. my guess is a small (5kg) shark, either blacktip or bronzie.

seabreeze will forcast slightly stronger winds then willy weather. Just look at both and take a line down the middle.

lagoon is a great spot.

Mon, 2011-01-31 10:41

lagoon is a great spot. especially for the metro. I used to fish it multiple times every week. iIhave found over spots now but i still head back there occassionally. On strong southerly winds the current becomes really strong and the place does have a tendency to "weed out".

Cast from shore and try keep your bait in the rip on the inside of the reef. I usually walk north to the opening and fish the wash zone around the corner. Some of the biggest metro tailor i have seen/landed have come from that spot.

On low tide walk out on the reef and throw lures in the the reef holes on the actual reef, there is one really big hole so try and focus on this . This will get you more large tailor if they are trapped. (On higher tides they swim over into the reef becoming trapped as the tide drops)

Definately mulloway on this stretch, also some thumping rays that come into the lagoon. Last season there were also couple of salmon landed by friends whilst tailor fishing.

Hope this helps.

Mon, 2011-01-31 12:59

Its hard to stop them on light gear though, makes for some fun fishing.

There is a spot a little further north id like to try but i can be bothered walking from the car to the spot.
