Not recently no, last summer

Not recently no, last summer I went for a day at the beach, use the terminal as shade and just picked the big ones of each pilon, got heaps for a feed and cooked them in wog sauce with chilli, yummo! All the pilons close to the shore get picked so you just go to the ones further out. We used to get em there when we were kids. Just park at the carpark just north of the terminal, its a place that people are alowed to walk/swim their horses. Theres no signs or fenced off areas so there is full access to public except onto the pier itself ofcourse. Been meaning to get down there over summer and take the tinny out too, thered be fish on it, would get deep toward the end, tho dont know the legalities of that.

safe

River mussels are safe to eat. It surprised me to learn this. Pick them from below the low-water line and you'll be fine. Don't pick them off yacht club pylons, and don't eat them every single day either  - its a sometimes food :D

Dont pick them off concrete pylons or new plylons that are treated timber, that will make you sick real quick.

We got a feed off the grain

Fri, 2012-05-11 13:07

We got a feed off the grain terminal about 3 weeks ago and go there reasonably often. Still plenty there.

If you don't tie off to the terminal security are usually pretty cool.

Also try to avoid ultra high tides, when the water is up you have to dive down to the good clean mussels rather than just float and pick.

Monster tarwine there the other week too!
