what to do?

I have a mate who purchased a highend fishing reel off the internet. He received it this morning with a broked reel foot. It looks as though it was broken during transport and insufficent packaging and padding seems to be the cause. Would it be the companies fault that they didnt package it properly, or would it be Fedex's fault that they were careless in transporting the reel? who would you direct your claim to??

Fedex won't accept any
Fedex won't accept any accountablility for the damage unless postage insurance was purchased. Been down that road before, best bet would be the company, or read the warranty of the reel.

It is up to the store you
It is up to the store you bought it from, then they can chase it up with fedex. You purchased the rod paying full price for a reel with no faults, and received a faulty reel.

not being a tightass m8. Australia only has a fraction of the reels shimano makes. the reel my mate was after was not avaliable in australia and his only option was to buy overseas. get ur facts before commenting!

I also recieved a damaged
I also recieved a damaged reel purchased off the net and contacted the seller direct. The damage to mine was minor in comparison to a broken foot, with small nicks in the spare spool lip that obviously arose during transport. Online reel sellers should really put a few bits of bubble wrap inside the reel box.
The seller claimed they had no spares in stock but did compromise, offering me a further 10% off a sale item. Due to the hassle posting overseas I accepted and did some minor repairs myself.
In your case I would definately be asking for an exchange from the seller.

I'm sure ppl buy boats,
cars, bikes etc overseas who have lots of money, just because they want something that isn't available on the Australian market......not because they are a tightbum.
I think you'll find that buying stell'a and saltiga's online is no cheaper than the local market, some good discounts going locally atm - eofy.

Think I'd be just emailing
Think I'd be just emailing retailer letting them know whats going on and take it from there...most internet retailers are in it for the long haul and I've found dealing with them on the whole very professional ...more so than local at times ie: 8 week turnaround on local faulty product ..however it just comes down to the related business's integrity ...if through EMS typically 5 days each way from states
