what can we do to stop People over fishing

Just get shocked today, when i went to Claremont jetty, there is a gorup of people crabing there, they set just damn a lot crab trap on all the piles of the jetty. each pile has two trap, totally around 30 crab traps. What the hell is that, can you imaging that a jetty with around 30 crab traps.... just wandering is it legal to do that, even it is legal, i think it is damn unethical to do that.

Last year, I often fishing in Mosman park, once I saw a woman, set around 5-8 traps around jetty, and caught 2 large bags of crab. then, a boat came, took all her crabs, then gone. This woman continued crabing like just come with nothing caught. !!!!!!

Few weeks ago, I went to woodman point fishing, ( the south the wmp, rock area), when the sunset coming, some people keep coming, and started to take tailor, just around 1 hour till I go, each person caught around 5-10 tailors, ( the law states that 50cm size only can keep 2 I think ), most of them are over bag limit I think.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I am here wandering what can we do to stop those people over fishing.

geez mate, way to be judgemental. How can you say this? Seriously mate. Its not just the Vietnamese who do it, every ethical group does it, including australians. This post can be misconstrued as racist and like you have jumped to a conclusion that every person of this specific group does it. Pull yuour headf in matedfcg!

I am writing this to point what I saw, it is objectives things that what happened. Not subjective in my mind.

Racist

Sat, 2012-06-30 09:07

I dont think saying the people he saw doing this were a certain group is racist. You have twisted it to be a racist comment LEEMO.Face facts leemo "MOST" people openly seen doing the wrong thing catching undersize crabs etc are from elsewere.Thats not being racist, thats the facts.Thats the problem these days, to many people trying to be politicaly correct when its there stupid way of thinking bringing attention to absolutly nothing. There was nothing wrong with the original comment.

fisheries

Sat, 2012-06-30 07:03

If they are infact fishing illegally then call fishwatch they are actually very helpful and will come down and investigate a lot of the time, other than that all you can do is bring it to their attention that what their doing is illegal and hope that's enough to make them stop. It's a real shame there's always the minority that ruin it for the majority

Give the fisheries hotline a call and take pics that can identify them , their vehicle / boat that can be used as evidence.

Leemo , can you read ? Nothin

Sat, 2012-06-30 11:32

Leemo , can you read ? Nothin there in the post mentioning race . Maybe look in the mirror . All of us should keep informed on rules and the number to ring fisheries so this rubbish doesnt keep happening , regardless of race , etc . If possible , a calm word to offenders pointing out limits , size goes a long way . If they get aggresive , walk away and just report it . Easy !

Can you read?! Leemo clearly states that a certain race should be edited to the word "people"

Obviously the original thread read something different to what it does now

I have seen the same thing in

Sat, 2012-06-30 12:56

I have seen the same thing in the swan, however if there is  a group of 10 ppl, they are allowed 100 pots and 100 crabs between them. Hard to accuse them of breaking the laws in that case.

"racist" is not the major point

Sat, 2012-06-30 13:45

The purpose of posting this topic is pointing out the unethical issue or even it is legal, as Championruby said it is really hard to prove them breaking the law. if they have group of people. However, it is very unethical. In the small jetty, tie all the piles with traps, you can see the traps every where, u can not even cast your fishing line by without hooking up their traps. Some of them may caught small crab, yeah, we call the fishwatch hotline, when the fisheries coming, they can throw back the under size crab. Also same example I said before, " A woman (Viet) caught large two bags of crabs (aborsoutly over limited), then a boat came, took all the crabs, as nothing happen, she kept crabbing,  no evidence left." It is really shame to this behaviour.

In my opinion, it is futher beyond recreational fishing/crabbing, how a person or even a family can consume that huge amount of fish and crabs, or maybe they sell those crabs or fishes to the market as cheap price. ( I do not have evidence to prove it, just my guess).

Guys, I think all you feel that every year, fish and crabs has became less and less in the metro area. The major point is we need trying to stop them over fishing, "racist" is not the issue we debate here. anyway, the original post i list they are Viet people, however, it was the facts. my purpose is point the overfishing issue, not racist.

This post, when it was posted

Sat, 2012-06-30 13:39

This post, when it was posted at 1am this morning, had a much different tone to it.  Terry edited it accoredingly after my post, which i commended in my second reply. And in response terry, the only thing you CAN do is get in contact with fish watch and take photos. It is just stupid to take the matter into your own hands.
