Venturing into Jetski Fishing --- *** FOR SALE ***

Gday all,

New to the forum, and my first post on here.

Have recently been setting up my jetski ready to get out on the water and after some fish. I have a seadoo rxtx with a Lowrance Elite 5 chart plotter/fish finder and a 'whiteybox' on the back. I used a 'Tallon Elite Socket' for the plotter/finder for ease of mount and dismount for when i want to use the ski without the screen being in the way. I can highly recommend these sockets. Havent had the chance to get out and test it all out yet (working fifo) but will hopefully try it all out as soon as im home next as its sitting in the garage ready to go!

Is there many of us out there doing this in WA yet? And if youre doing it, feel free to give me any advice/info you like! Be keen to get to know anyone else who is into it as well and possibly venture out for a fish somewhere in the metro area soon. Also as i work up north ill be planning more then the odd trip across to Coral Bay/Exmouth to get amongest the action out that way.

Anyway heres a couple pics of the rig so far...

Welcome to the forum mate.

Welcome to the forum mate. Yes there are a couple guys doing it up and down the coast but I personally only fish with 2 others that fish the metro area. I've seen a couple other blokes ride past but they've never stopped to chat so they must want to keep to themselves. I've been fishing from my Yamaha for nearly 3 and a half years now and I still love it. I fish south of the river, mostly targeting tailor and snapper on lures and plastics. I also started fifo this year so dont get out as much as I used to. Theres a jetski fishing photo album in the Photos section feel free to add any of your own photos. Where are you located?

And obviously, cant wait for the chance to catch some of those pinkins in cockburn sound that you seem to have done pretty well on. Wanna share the details of any spots...? Haha gotta try right?

Yeh you'll have to come join

Tue, 2012-11-27 21:14

Yeh you'll have to come join us around the islands, plenty of options, tailor, snapper, squid, sambos, kgw etc etc etc...! Have only seen a couple sharks from the ski, memorable one was a big hammerhead nearly the size of the ski. The snapper are good fun, unfortunately I dont have any of my own spots to share, only spots guys ive met through the site that have been kind enough to share with myself, I gotta do the righty by them!

Thats a nice ski you've got to, my best mate bought the same one last summer, I was surprised how much dryer the ride was compared to mine. Have you had the ski long?
Plenty of reefs between halls head and avalon that will be holding tailor this time of year, good luck!

Update: First trip out

Wed, 2013-01-02 07:22

Well, first trip out was reasonably succesful, just did a bit of trolling for tailor, found a decent school againest a rather well known rock wall, picked up my bag limit in 30 mins, then caught and released about another 20. Good fun!

Not overly big, majority were about 37cm.

Crumbed tailor it was for tea that night, went down a treat with some fresh lemon squeezed on and a dollop of natural yoghurt!

I had actually planned on heading out after some larger species, I hit the boat ramp at 5am, at 5:15 the SW wind came in creating waist high chop, made conditions not so enjoyable so i headed into a protected area. On my way in I spotted a small reef shark relaxing on the surface until he spotted me and took off. Shortly after that i picked up a large clump of seaweed on my intake grate! Had to get in the water and pull it out coz the ski just wouldnt move haha and the old side to side rock wasnt going to cut it. Needless to say, the area i was in at the time made me a little nervous! Iv been surfing for years, and the thought of shrks has never really bothered me until recently with all the media attention and attacks.

Anyway, heres a pic of my catch... Im away at work again at the moment, hopefully ill get back out to chase some larger species on my next week off!

Happy New Years all!

Edit: Where has the pic upload bit gone....?

Hey Asahambe Yeah they

Mon, 2013-01-21 04:21

Hey Asahambe

Yeah they certainly are reasonably good fun to catch! I just am so so keen on getting into some bigger/more powerful fish! Itll happen, just gotta keep spending time out on the water.

The sounder is good mate, cant knock anything bad about it! Resolution even in direct full sunlight is amazing, clear as, and the features of the sounder are really good. I mounted mine 'shoot thru hull' style. Im considering removing it (if i can remove it from the epoxy i mounted it with) and attaching it to the rear of the ski. The image quality is good when using the sounder, but i do get some marks coming up on the screen, and i suspect its possibly from small air bubbles within the epoxy. None the less, it still does the job, i use it more for navigation/depth finding and marking way points more then anything anyway.

Hi Andy Hows the jetski

Tue, 2013-01-29 13:20

Hi Andy

Hows the jetski fishing going ?  I see you live in mandurah (I also live in mandurah)  I am keen on fishing from my jetski, I wouldn't mind having a look at your set up, before I start messing around with my ski, is the whiteybox stable on the tal of your ski ? I would also be interested in seeing the tallon elite socket mtg,

Let me know when you are back in town and we could sort something out

Cheers

Paul
