Hi Gents, This is my first
Hi Gents, This is my first post, however I’ve been reading the forums for the past 6 or so months.
I'm based in Dubai and was wondering why you’re going all the way down to southern Oman (Salalah?) while it looks like a beautiful spot, it’s a pain in the arse getting down there with your gear.
Why dont you fish out of Dibba, Northern Oman? its only a 90 minute drive from Dubai. There are plenty of 50kg models and great scenery within a 45 minute cruise up to a place called Musandam (basically the home of GT’s). If you're coming through Dubai anyway then i'd recommend Dibba/Musandam.
If you fish for GT's for a couple days, then after you can head over to Fujairah (30 mins away from Dibba) where you can hit the dollies/Sailfish/Amberjack/Tuna. What charter company are you fishing with? It’s generally South Africans which operate them over here. Cheers/Ben

Good info indeed. And it's not that the drive to Salalah is one with astounding scenery. How long does it take? 12-14hours? Once you near Salalah and around Muscat it's alright, but the bulk of the trip is just flat, lifeless desert.
I worked halfway between Muscat and Salalah for 2 years in a desert town called Duqm. If only I had realised the fishng potential at the time. Dayum.
Good luck finding someone to join in, and have a good one! Looking forward to a report already.

Yeah thats right Jelle, its a
Yeah thats right Jelle, its a fair hike! I think there are some small flights which run between Dubai and Salalah from memory but not something I'd be putting my hand up for. Perth-Dubai (11hr direct flight with emirates) is all you want to be doing. The weather will be perfect late October/early Novemeber and fishing will be on! its 45-50 degrees here atm and those who are brave enough are still getting sails/dollies/amberjack and long tail tuna off Fujairah. The big GT's aren't in atm but should be the time you guys are here. Although i'm not sure how the season runs in Southern Oman. It could well possibly be running hot all year round. cheers/Ben

Not too good in southern Oman
Not too good in southern Oman during the Khareef Ben, but starts firing around September.
For those who are interested we're not driving to Salalah, we'll be flying from Muscat.

Ok thats right Muscat to salalah. Do you fly through Dubai to get to Muscat? Might also br worth checking out a spot called Hallaniyat islands also in southern Oman. I know they were getting +50kg GT's there in January. The bigger ones should be starting to show up. I know they have been getting fish to 25kg at the start of the month in Musandam. Apparently some jumbo tuna out there too!
