uploading pic problems

Been trying all night to put some pics up from today, but to no avail.
Is it just me or are others having issues, when i try to upload a pic it takes ages then comes up with a message ....You must upload an image. in red

how big
How big is the file your trying to upload. They generally need to be under 1 meg.
