Mate of mine just got back

Mate of mine just got back from there a couple of days ago. Weather was horrible but according to the pics he posted on fb the fishing was red hot. Plenty of big snapper.
Seeing as it was windy it looks like they didn't go far in the tinnys.

Fishing is almost always good

Been going at least once a year since about 2008. The fishing is good, as long as you like catching a variety of fish including pink snapper, pink snapper, pink snapper and occasionally even pink snapper.  They are like blowfish. to be fair you can sometimes scrounge up a few black snapper in some areas and the occasional bluebone but they are pretty skittish on the bite. Snorkel and the old straight hook is the best bet for bluebone.  From either Baba Head or Tent landing I would just head out to any of the islands (Except Mary Island as I think theres a sanctuary zone around that).  Fish in pretty close to the islands and you should be good to get a few without much trouble. Any fresh fish for bait (butterfish work well) 5/0 hook, no weight required as you're generally fishing in under 3m of water.  If you want big pinks, find the deeper channels and fish them.  Last year the entire of the prickly point side of Tamala had been decimated by the goats, was dusty, smelly and heaps of flies.  Hopefully they have either moved them on or reduced the numbers at least. ANyway, it's a cracker of a spot, good luck and enjoy.
