Tackle box must haves

 Hi All,

I'm new to this fishing caper and in the process of building up my tackle box. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on what are the essential items items that should be in the tackle box.

Cheers for any advice

Mark

head torch plus spare batteries

Sat, 2012-05-26 09:31

Aside from the terminal tackle a torch, decent set of pliers, little tube of zinc suncream and some mosquito repellent are a few things that I never take out of the fishing bag.

tackleback

Sat, 2012-05-26 12:01

Get a Tackleback if you use lures a bit.  Nothing worse than getting a $20 lure snagged just out of reach in Croc territory.  And it will pay for itself on the first use.

I have a tackle bag, so i carry about 4 boxes at any one time - for lures, definitely a 20g twisty or equivalent. I always like to have a few small circle hooks, say 1/0. small 00 sized ball sinkers. a pair of scissors is also an incredible help.

Every thing every one has

Sat, 2012-05-26 21:52

Every thing every one has said is great advice especially the bottle opener and stubby cooler

I personally would go a tackle bag like Leemo said. I use one with 4 boxes seems to cover all types of fishing.

One has all different types of sinkers

one has all different types/sizes of hooks

one has all different types/sizes of swivels

one has all sorts-small lures (twistys, spanyrds etc), glow sticks, squid jigs, other jigs, sabiki rigs, lumo tube/red tube,

Front pocket on bag has a sharp knife, a pair of braid scissors (cuts braid and mono- most used tool in my box), small pliers, tackleguard, electrical tape, small spring scales, scaler, fish wipes, lighter

Side pockets on my bag has individual sleeves which hold pre made rigs.

Also suggest you have some type of leader material in the bag somewhere just in case you need to make more rigs

I think thats about it without going and checking

have fun

all depends on boat or shore

all depends on boat or shore but

headtorch

spare batteries for gps

nailclippers for trimming braid and leader

some spare leader

couple small hooks and sinkers -see livies -catch em

up north-- Single strand wire

on remote trips -rod tips, spare eye/s, superglue and some epoxy glue

hook removal gear- from mates arms, ears etc.

if u cant fix it with this -come home

a belt with a sheath and sharp knike, a small bait box that slides on ( this also doubles up as a lure and small plier carrier, terminals etc ) and one of those glove clips to hold a bit of rag on and you can go for miles without having to come back for spares.

Sun, 2012-05-27 22:33

the amount of stuff you carry depends on size of tackle box your willing to carry around.

'spare line of a few diff poundages would come in handy. packs like black magic that sit flat are ideal. im talking trace line not to spool up a reel
