Swan River Bait Traps
Submitted by Graeme76 on Tue, 2011-10-25 19:08
Does anyone know if it is legal to use a bait trap in the Swan River? Those drum style ones with the funnel openings in each end. I've searched the fisheries website but all I could find out is that there is a limit of one per person & no mention of what waters they could be used in.

As far as i know all trap,s and net's are not alowed in the swan, exept crab and prawn nets.
there are ways to gather live baits , just depends on wht you want .

Just after some of the
Just after some of the smaller minnow type fish that get around in the shallows. Getting prawns with a scoop net is no drama & I use slices etc to catch herring but those smaller baitfish are buggers to try to get with a scoop net. I'll see what I can figure out while staying within the rules.

bright lamp should atract white bait
bright lamp should attract white bait and a very fine mesh scoop net, like a kids net on a pole, when they gather around the light, scoop and gather your bait, used to catch heaps of whitebait a few years ago, plenty to fry up and eat aswell as fresh bait, hope this helps your endevour and if its hardy heads your after baitchaser no 9 with berley, hope both suggestions help
