What line class are you
What line class are you looking at. Had a look at an okuma x-factor 10 footer today for $180. 8-10kg line class, very light (graphite) and in your budget. Leaves you $200 for a reel.

umm, theres one that i been
umm, theres one that i been meaning to grab, its a lemax pro team. Its blue but cant remember specs. I saw at oceanside, it was a heavy action rod, very light, sexy looking and had long cast handle. Ask honsu for specs. Pricewise i dont remember exactly 300+, maybe 320 or something. I know u said u wanted light\medium but im sure this one would do the job. I found using light and medium surfs, im always wishing it was heavier lol. All my surfs are medium.

I own one of those
And BTW.. LOL I bought it from Oceanside.. Very good place you know.. The rod is fantastic and very heavy action. More suited to popping for large Tailor etc. I have reverted back to my 9" Ugly Stik for the action you ar talking about. A nice medium Okuma reel (Honshu is an expert here) will make for great fun in the surf.

Rovex is not a name many would associate with quality surf rods
but if you can get hold of a Big Boss 6812 TL than you are onto a very nice alround 12' rod at a great price.
A lot of salmon chasers swore by the old Penn 6810, which, as far as I can ascertain, is no longer made under that brand name as Jarvis Walker brought the rights and put them in their Rovex Big Boss range.
I picked up a 6812 at the Tackle Shack recently and it would be perfect for what you are looking for Jono.

Ugly Stik Strickes again!
Good choice! LOL 10.2 is a reasonable size so make a good choice in a reel. Baitrunner 4500 maybe?????? Okuma of some sort???
