Sunday washout

I decided to head down to the south wall of Hillarys this morning in the hope of finding some tailor.
I discovered a number of things.
1 Don't trust the Foxtel weather channel forecast (mainly fine with a few showers, gale force winds and a 3.5 metres swell). None of which was true.
2 The rain jacket presented to me by a client is not actually rainproof.
3 Fishermen are a hardy bunch.

I arrived at about 5.45 am hoping to get a bit of fishing behind Aqwa up and to and after the high tide at 7.08 am.
No sooner had I rigged up both my rods than it started to rain, and it continued to rain and in fact, never stopped raining.
However, with very little wind and a small swell it was comfortable fishing conditions.
Unfortunately, the fish either didn't like the weather or had gone somewhere else.
After three hours I woosed out. With only a few picking bites and my top half totally soaked (thank god my rain proof pants were that)the thoughts of a nice hot cup of coffee and some scrambled eggs on toast was just too inviting.
There were about six or seven other anglers fishing near me, and despite hardly getting a bite between them, and the rain getting even heavier, they were still hanging in there when I left. I admire their fortitude and dedication (and their better quality rain gear).
Oh well, there is always next time.
All the best, Colin Hay

It would have been worth it if the fish were there. I normally find that the fishing bite pretty well when it is raining. Obviously the fish behind Aqwa don't believe in that theory.

yeah dont you hate the fact that the fish dont like to get wet when it rains, they go to the bottom to get away from the rain, that was a female comment i once heard, pmsl

This bloke wasn't the brightest spark

Sun, 2008-06-15 12:02

We went fishing of a wharf in Pittwater in Sydney one day and I accidently dropped a float into the water. My friend saw me grab my scoop net and wait for the float to come by before I scooped it up.
A few hours later, I saw him with the scoop net in his hand and I asked him what he was doing. He said he had dropped his sinker in the water. I cracked up and almost fell of the jetty laughing.

No a butcher

Sun, 2008-06-15 12:06

I once found him drawing lines on his fingers. I asked him what he was doing - he said that he lost all of his money on the horses, but that as a butcher he got a certain amount of money depending what finger got cut off.
I made him wash his hands and throw away his form guide.
He was a great guy and a good laugh - but a real worry.

At one stage it was raining so hard at Hillarys I felt like a rain water tank overflowing. The water was pouring off my noggin so fast I couldn't see what was in front of me.

Hi Ya,

"I installed a 1000lt rain water tank yesterday, It started overflowing at 9am.

And that is from the downpipe that has the smallest roof catchment."

Off topic I know, but that is why I believe the govt should be capturing the water off buildings for scheme use.  Would not need anywhere near as much treatment as waste water or desalination.  Wouldn't be too hard to implement either.  There are plenty of suburbs around now that require communal storm water disposal (similar system to sewer but the pipes go to the big soakwater holes).  Given the pipes already go to the soakwells, why extend that to a treatment plant?

Cheers.

hey

Tue, 2008-06-24 17:39

Gday fellas!

I went to the south wall of hillarys tonight it was quite windy but comfortable i suppose with a little bit of shelter around the corner .. i was fishing for anything big with unweighted mulies but all i got were one nibble and quite a large bite, i dont know where the fish have gone but the metro areas are largely fished, one would wonder about the fishing stocks.

I'm yet to catch a tailor but they cant hide for too long!

I am not sure about the tailor stocks tommo

Tue, 2008-06-24 20:47

Carolyn reported on a survey recently that showed the metro tailor stocks were quite good. I think there may be more of an issue with weather conditions at the moment. Hopefully that will all change soon and the tailor will be jumping on your line.
