Stop the rot: SA's catch a carp campaign

Fishermen will be paid by the South Australian Government to catch carp in Lake Albert near the mouth of the Murray as part of a two-week trial to reduce fish numbers.

The Government says rising salinity is expected to kill large numbers of fish soon, which would leave the lake strewn with rotting fish.

SA Fisheries Minister Paul Caica says $500,000 has been allocated for the trial.

"The fishermen will be paid inclusive of GST $4.50 a kilo of fish and then we'll look at the catch rate, the effectiveness of ... with a view to, if it's successful, extending it," he said.

What a good plan.  i wish they had that in Canberra when in one afternoon session my mate and I caught 22 carp.  The biggest went about 80cm and we got about 5 at that size!!!  We would have been pretty cashed up after that

Its quite easy to catch a number of them in the 2kg to 3kg range in the Murray. Great fun on fly!

Catch 10 or so and make yourself a lazy $100 plus or so for an afternoon.

Big ones in the 25-30lb size are exported live to the UK from Australia as virgin caught fish.

Go the floating dog biscuit on a hair rig Cool  Any dog biccie with lots of air to suspend it from the bottom out of the mud will be good.

I have disolving bags for ground bait.  They go out on the end of the line to bring em in.

Hows the braid hook link. That would work for some fish here.  Fish that inhale like Dhus would suck that in.
