SS Prop Rattle

Since I popped on my stainless steel prop I have been getting a horrible rattling sound when I have the engine only just in gear in forward and reverse. If I give it a slight rev it goes away and can sometime go away whilst in gear and she drives fine otherwise. I’ve stuck the muffs on it in the driveway and it doesn’t make the rattling sound in forward or reverse so appears to only happen in the water. I’ve contact my mechanic as I thought I may have installed it incorrectly but he’s said that is fine it is just the weight difference between aluminium and stainless steel and not much can be done about it.

I’ve also been in touch with Mick who said it’s a common issue with Suzukis and suggests that increasing my idle by 15 PM should fix the issue.

Has anyone else fixed this issue by increasing their idle RPM or was it then too fast in gear in idle when docking etc?

Cheers JF

Guessing.....

I just bought a ss prop for the 70 yammy but havent fitted it yet ,,,,,, in doing my research i read alot of the yank anglers and boaties pay to get there SS props balanced ....

Not 100% who would offer that service in WA but i guess the prop repairers first or possibly someone like veem eng who do the tailshafts etc ....

maybe because the SS props are heavyer they need it more than ali ones ,,,and the yanks were saying some props are less presise than you would imagine....
