Sounder shot, bait ball

Playing around with the new sounder when I was doing the motor run in  the other day, I have since changed the background to black. Have to adjust the colour line when I'm out next and fine tune the height of the two transducers. Also have some awesome shots with structure scan over James service reef and the Rockwall at woodies boatramp that I'll post when I get a chance.

I find this kind of stuff

Wed, 2016-08-31 11:35

I find this kind of stuff really useful. I am currently learning to drive a new sounder ( sv9) and its my intro to more capable units after years of using smaller, B&W machines.

I realise my SV9 isn't the most exotic unit out there, but it's miles ahead of what I am used to, and looking at  other peoples screen shots helps me get a better idea of what's what...seen some really weird stuff on the screen latelywhich has had me scratching my head saying " that can't be real" I am learning that over here in WA bait doesn't necessarily mean there will be fish on it read to attack my offering!!

Hi Lance, and welcome aboard. You might want to chase up a book by John Adams called "how to use an echo sounder / fish finder". I bought my copy about 3 weeks ago and have read it front to back and back to front several times. Has fantastic information for modern day sounders. Oceanside who are a sponsor on here had plenty when I got mine from them. They are almost $50 but worth every cent.

To give you an idea I was on

Wed, 2016-08-31 13:30

To give you an idea I was on flat sandy/weedy ground.. I need to adjust my colour line when I know I'm over hard rocky ground to help identify hard and softer areas. With the structure scan on this unit you can make out the ripples in the sand, I'll post some of those pictures when I get a chance.

And I agree with Dale about getting that book! It helps a lot at understanding your sounder and what your actually looking at.

Yeah, sometimes I even wish it was black and white!!

theres a lot more information to process with the new age stuff ( and mine is already obsolete!)

only been out 4 times so far with the new gear.

the book sounds interesting, and I have been flogging you tube to death as well.

a trip out with a guru would be an enormous help as well.

cheers for the comments on my reply.

You have committed the cardinial sin

Going out on the water in a boat and not having some sort of fishing gear on-board, you will have to put some of the new $5.00 notes in the charity box on Sunday. lol

 I have recently started

Fri, 2016-09-02 07:16

I have recently started experimenting with my colour line adjustment.  Is there any correlation between the sensetivity setting and colour line setting? Ie when you increase sensitivity in deeper water, should you increase colour line as well?

(PS thats a great shot!)
