Comparing fishing to hooking a cat or dog is rediculous. In this country, cats and dogs have never been mainstream edibles (although I'm sure we've been to 'that' restaurant).
I think he gave up fishing since he was only catching wrasse as shown in the picture.

So instead of fishing as a hobby, he spends his time making terribly loud noises as a drummer, demonstrating his talents, late at night in night clubs full of young drunks and fans stoned on synthesised chemicals willing to give some of their money his way so he can afford to pay for his vegetables ... maybe we'll see him out on the ocean in 20 years or so when fishing out in the wild blue yonder actually brings him more peace and it's no longer trendy for him to be listening to the useless nagging vegan, PETA supporting whiners he once tried so hard to impress to get laid.

people's attitudes change over the years. When I was younger living in NZ was I was part time culler and killed more animals than I can remember, and then at the weekends I'd shot for meat and trophies. Then one day, atter the obligatory "look what I killed" photos I thought better of it and stopped.
I still have the head proudly displayed on my wall, and the shell casing in my office draw, but no longer find the need to kill wild animals now I photograph them instead.
Does this make me a tree hugging, vegan, oxygen thieving poof? I don't think so, in a broad way I agree with the guys thought process, yes his delivery leaves a lot to be desired but as others have noted anything from The West needs to be taken with a healthy dose of salt

catch and release has been a bone of contention to mnay for along time , it has been normalised over time , so normalised i think people sometimes just think anything can be C&R
awareness is the biggest thing , how others may view or use anglers actions againt them is key to how we remain in the game with access etc to just being able to fish i suppose our weakness is our eagerness to just dismiss guys like him to easily and not be responsible ourselves in our actions

Not that I am a hunter anymore
Did more than my fair share of shooting/hunting as a child (8-12yo) on the farm in Africa and got over that. Included my father teaching me the dangers of weapons by letting me fire 1 shot as a 10yo from a "Dirty Harry" 38. Almost broke my arm and blew me a few feet backwards. Those were the days!!
But OMG what outrage a hunting post causes. I remember the post I think Big John posted and we all got caught out in that one. (Sorry Big John if it wasn't you).
The world has well and truly turned Pansy. I don't post many photo's, mostly because my targets now are not trophy type fish. But in the current climate IF I caught a notable one, instead of just posting it, I would wash it first and not show any blood. It just appears to give Ammo to the Pews of the world.

Your comments about publishing photos is spot on, I have made remarks on here about putting up photos of a great catch with it covered in blood etc, and that is unfortunate, but that is the way things are at the moment it gives the anti fishing hunting types free ammunition to use against our sport.
Remember the out cry when photos where published when the salmon run was on at the ammo jetty and the jetty was awash with blood.
What Crasny has said is so important, a quick wash over and then you have a nice clean photo of your catch.
