side imaging on humminbird

just wondering whether anyone has any experiences for/against the side imaging on the humminbird 898/998 cx's?
im looking at getting one of these combos, and just want to know if they are worth the extra money, or just to go with the down image.
looking at something for all purpose use, deep and shallow...

Hey gill I have a 798 and have found it to be a great unitboth in normal sonar and side imaging can't say I've worried about down imaging as such si is great for shallow water also great for find bait schools when chasing mackies as I spread the beam as wide as it can go find the bait mackies won't b to far away.

Cheers bazza! I just installed the 898 over the weekend, so hoping that wed is the day we get to try it out... weather is looking pretty mint so far, if it holds true, we'll hit the south west of Rotto for a run :-)
