Does anyone know if the VHF band is monitored at Shark Bay (Denham & Monkey Mia)?
If so what is their call sign?

Ken

Monitor
Shark bay monitor channel 16 on VHF and I'm not too sure on channel 88 on the 27meg band. Just call them up as Shark bay sea rescue
There is an ACRAM base there, its not recognised readily by the sea rescue organisation but still does a good job.

Not sure
Not entirely sure but I think its something like Amatuer Citizens Radio ?????? Monitoring.
The main base is down by Capel or Peppermint grove and service Bunbury and Bussellton.

Basically you can log in and out with them down in the South West and also in Denham.
It costs around $30 a year, you give them all your details and they issue you with a boat call sign. When you log in you give the call sign how many crew, eta etc without having to go through everything with Sea Rescue. If you are late back they contact you by Phone or Radio, check with the names you have given them ie the misses to see if your back if not Sea Rescue are contacted.

last time we were there we
last time we were there we went to sighn on and were told not to worry about it. i thought it was crazy as there is so many boats that go out every day. still we logged on and off every day. gotta be safe. we had to get in touch with them on 88 then go to another channel. thought it very strange, maybe its different now but

Emergency channel
For 27 meg radios, 88 is the emergency and calling channel, so you call up on 88 then switch to another channel to avoid clogging up the emergency one. If I remember Two Rocks is 88 then turn to 91, Whitfords is 88 then 90
For VHF its 16 then 72 or 73 depending on the amount of traffic

If you want to log on / off,
If you want to log on / off, call Denham ACRM base. They are more than happy to log you on and off, but they only operate during the winter months. They are there now, I used them last week coming back from Steep Point. The Sea Rescue group monitor, but don't log on and off.
