Ive just been through all

Sat, 2011-05-21 07:48

Ive just been through all this... some points I learnt:

- To view the the actual lengths, you must be a member of IGFA (which costs silly money)

- To enter any fish (along with all the other, usual requirements), you must purchase an official length mat from them. which by itself is fine. Until you realise it costs FORTY FIVE DOLLARS plus postage. which is not so fine.

Personally, while there obviously has to be some charges etc to keep the assoc running etc... these sort costs seems pretty high.

In my opinion, this creates a fair bit of "elitism" it brings into question the whole intergity of the records, as Ive had a fiook at the "records", and any semi serious angler will have caught/ or at least have seen caught, several of many of the species that would blow these "records" away. and easily. Granted, this is stil a relitively new catergory and therefore the records will obviously take some time to "fill out", but the sad fact is that due to these costs, I suspect it will take a long to provide a true reflection of what the records acually are. Or, at the very least, it will be filled with rich boys who probably dont deserve them!!

well, theres my saturday rant. pretty early in the day for that! must have something to do with my hangover....

cammos, no contender mate,

cammos, no contender mate, just doing some research for a project.

quobba

yer mate i had look at all of that and do agree with what you said.

i did view the lenghts and i am not a member.

there has to be some changes to the way they record fish now, with the majority being catch and release the lenght is the only true way to keep records as there is to many differances in scales fishos will have onboard there boats.

as i said to cammos, i am not looking to enter a fish contender atm, just doing some reasearch for a project a couple of people are working on and the recorded weight of the fish wont work, needs to be lenght.

i suppose alot of people wouldnt even know they are recording the lenght now?

Are these official length

Are these official length mats calibrated against standards Australia ....... I would be asking that question of the IGFA.

It would only be of concern you would think if it was a matter of mm !

Just throwing it back at the elitists.
