Re Cockburn Snapper

Hi All
Ant to take the boat for a run Monday but the bad weather makes me think Snapper in the Sound could be a good idea. Am I wasting my time fishing for them in the daytime ? I have never fished in the sound and would like to try and catch a pinkie if they can be caught in the daytime.
Any advice welcome , time of day , bait to use , where to try.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

Certainly not waisting your time but the morning and arvo are better times and if you can fish the high tide that's better. In saying that you will still get fish in the arvo & evening on a low or a low to incoming tide as they're still be a major or minor feed period regardless throught the day.

The key is to look around and find fish before anchoring. The spot that has the most fish would be the spot to anchor & berley and then after a few hours with no fish you can move on and try the second best spot etc

Best bait is scaly mackerel, two snelled 6/0 chem sharp hooks, a small #3 ball sinking running right down to the hooks and 60lb trace line. Spots, they're endless and the key is to find reefy structure, coral structure and area's that produce food and shelter etc

All the best, the full moon makes it harder in general so try early morning or late arvo more so atm!

Always nice to get tips from the master.

May be too much to ask, but the sound is a large area and I have not fished it before, where do I start ? Middle of the Sound - close to Garden island or closer to the mainland. Any stating point would be great but will understand if too much to ask.
PM me if that helps.
Thanks
Paul

Paul i don'treally fish the sound but have heard than near the shipping channel is good, you can try the D9 but have been on it before and it had nothing but bait fish.

IF you spend time sounding around you should pick up some good ground.  Good luck!

Yeah we tried the D9 on friday night with only one good hook up which was a good sized pinky, but she was dropped (bouttime pushed me and i rubbed the lie on the boat!) And drove around for about 3 hours trying all the likly areas but no luck! Trying again soon.

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!
