The Plunge

Hope you all had a good Christmas!
As some of you know, I've just newly got into boating etc etc and tomorrow I've decided (weather permitting) to take her out in the Cockburn sound to get a bit of 'sea time' and hopefully some fish 
A bit nervous about doing this, but I know its the best way to learn stuff. Any advice/ tips from the boaties will be greatly appreciated.

my advise use your head for either the water or road. If you aren't sure don't do it.

just take your time making
just take your time making sure that you have everything including the BUNG,dont go rushing off from the ramp just plod along getting the feel for the boat and in time you and it will become one
go out and enjoy the water as many of us do and soon you you wont be able to go wiyhout that salt water fix
if the weather is good go just outside john ledge reef in the sandy patches and give fishing a go ,you can get sand whiting herring skippy and possibly kg's or pinkys, if anchoring up try some berley pellets , but most of all ENJOY

have said, just go easy and enjoy.
Good to learn how to use trim though. Apart from that you know the old saying...practice makes perfect.
make sure everyone is wearing a lifevest if you are unsure of the sea.....

Perhaps put a few feelers
Perhaps put a few feelers out for deckies who are skippers. Would probably increase your confidence knowing theres someone on board with a lot of experience, and able to offer tips and advice. And hopefully from the deckie-skippers end its a bit less work for them. But I dont know, maybe its like sitting drivers seat to a new P-plater :p
You should be able to get some whiting and squid though. If the weathers good, maybe even hit the 5. Just if in doubt, dont do it.

Thanks for the advice, especially yours Goatch! Ha ha ha.
We went out from Woodmans about 7am and because it was so calm and such a good morning, headed out to the back of Garden Island to check it out. Well, Im glad I went as It turned out to be a very nice day indeed. Not much fish caught (whiting and some stripey wrasse type fish, oh yes and a few blowies!!!) I didn't mind not getting into the fish as just getting out and getting a feel for things was enough for me. Saw some dolphins too and some rays in the shallows which was also a bonus. I guess it just takes some practice knowing where to fish and how. Maybe a knowledgeable deckie would do me good.
Boats back in the drive now and already cant wait to get back out..........IM HOOKED!!!
