Pilbara Dinghy Missions

We are currently working up in the sunny town of good ole Port Hedland for the winter (escape before the heat hits too hard as I'm getting a bit soft these days!).

Manage to finally get a nice day on the water on my days off and zoomed around the shallow reefs off the back of Finni Island in search of a feed.

Got smoked a few times on light gear and soon learnt my lesson that it's not a good idea to let anything have any line up here!

Still hoping to land one of these mystical BlueBone that I hear so much about so I'm going out rock crab hunting tomorrow to up my bait game and see how that goes!

Thanks for watching and will keep ya posted on my BlueBone Hunt....

Your one of the lucky ones up here to get out . Damn wind has been relentless . Good luck with the tuskies . Yet to try for them yet but now with the tinny I will be giving it a bash. Been told the big ones are in the shallow water . Don't give them an inch

I havent tried for them in the boat yet, but the big blue bone I have caught landbased here in Exmouth have all been out of super shallow water. Lost an absolute monster about 2m from my feet last week fishing in knee deep water when my 60lb leader went.... Changed out the leader for 80lb and couldn't find another one but managed to pick up a horse Spango over 60cm which are also very fun in shallow water!!

I have tried fishing with rock crabs but am useless at getting them to stay on my hook, especially when the smaller models are around they just destroy them. Every big blue bone I have landed has come on fresh occy tenticles that I have pulled from the rock pools on low tide.

Nice one mate!

Yeah I've spooked a couple of big dogs in the shallows and hooked a couple but they absolutly destroy me... I need one of those 200lb handlines I think! haha.

Yeah I found the big big rock crabs, chopped in half and I hook it through near the flipper seemed to stay on good. Occy is a good tip!

 Try the shallows just out

Try the shallows just out behind Weirdee Downes, Oyster Inlet area. 5-8m of water incoming tide. You'll troll up a few trout same area too.

Yeah I've given the channel markers a bit of a crack. Really hit n miss and I think alot of crew give em a crack. I have a fair bit of luck on 34 and 24 marker. Only got to 24 once in the tinny though as it's a bit of a trek in the little boat.
