Overhead demersal jigging rod info.

Hi fella's, just after some info on an overhead jigging rod for demersals. Want to match it with a Shimano Torium 16HG. Will be running PE5 through it and jig weights of around 100 - 250g. Any advice would be great cheers.

If you want good gear. I have spin gear rods and love them. They don't break if you high stick them ? I have seen serious malpractice and stayed intact. Put the question out there for a while, as you will get good info !

Put it out there if people have had any breakages with jig rods, i bet there will be plenty to let you know what not to buy.

I also have shimano T curve 200 gram jig, and @ $260, is a good rod. Allrounder.Like it a lot.

If it will be used for

If it will be used for demersals don't go PE5, simply not needed. PE3 is more than enough and will allow your jig to stay vertical in the zone a lot longer due to less resistance through the water.
Have a chat with the site sponsors for a mid price rod, $200-$350 will get you a reasonable rod.
What is your budget?

His reel...

...is a PE5 Torium. Yes, is overkill for metro demersals but to go down to PE3 he'll have to budget for another reel as well.

But no reason he couldn't run PE3 on the Torium if he hadn't purchased line already.
Going to really struggle keeping those lighter jigs vertical with PE5.
Anyways guess there is always some sort of compromise.

Im also looking for a new PE5

Im also looking for a new PE5 overhead rod to match to my JM Powerspell PE6 reel.
I wanted to match it to a JM rod but i cant seem to find anyone stocking in perth now. So also keen to hear other options.
Jig weight up to 400g would be good.

I like the look of the JM Super Tornado if anyone has any experience with them.

 Cheers for the feedback

Cheers for the feedback lads, understand what your saying, I already have a pe3 spin outfit I use for demersals metro it just felt a bit light on on the half decent fish. I was aiming at targeting bigger fish and thought if I did manage to hook a decent Dhu say 10-15kg or more I'd get dusted strait up, that's why I was going pe5 just something with balls when you need it in the early stages of the fight. But yeah I spose if pe5 will not allow the jig to do its thing or get down in the zone long enough wouldn't matter how heavy the outfit is wont help landing the big fish.

Trust the PE3

Mate half decent PE3 should be around the 50lb mark.
Have landed plenty of fish around the 15kg, demersal and pelagic on it.
There are heaps of crew on this site that have boated fish over the 20kg magic mark as well.
Don't be scared to give shit, a good rod length of quality leader and get into them!
