Opinions please on SP rod

Hey Crew,

Chasing opinions on a soft plastics spin rod. Will be used in 30m-90m chasing demersals. Rod will be matched to a Twinpower 5000 running PE2.5, jig weights 2oz-4oz. Looking at lengths between 6.0-6.6.

At this stage looking at a budget of around $300-$500.

Appreciate any feedback.

Cheers

Boydy.

A couple to consider

Shimano Game Type J and Major Craft Giant Killing.

There are models in both of those ranges that would fit the bill.

Pickup a saltiga x on special somewhere for about $400. If you are lucky.

Hard to go past the saltiga rods, bloody awesome!

Bit OCD

Hey Scano, yep the Saltiga's are nice rods for sure, I run a 57b as a bottom basher. Just not sure if I can get my head around mixing Shimano with Daiwa, bit like dropping a Holden engine in a Ford! Might have to get over my little issue and try one on the reel haha.

Cheers

I used to have a similar phobia of a daiwa & shimano clash years ago.

it wasn't until I bought a Stella 8k, and a saltiga costal 57s that all those concerns went well out the window, one of the best combos I own!

its now actually pretty rare I have a rod and reel brand that match. For my liking Shimano make the best reels, daiwa make the best rods. (J.M.O)

and don't worry about the ford motor in a Holden body idea, have you seen the f6 typhoon engined VL turbo in oz? Makes about 900hp!

And the rb30 nissans making almost double the power of an Aussie 5ltr in a VL also.

Moral of the story, mix and match of brands gets you the best of both worlds.

Mate you seen fast Eddies twin turbo 5lt in the VB/C Commo. Seen it run a 7.80 a couple of years ago, dyno run @ 1300hp at the wheels!

Spent the morning checking out a heap of rods. The rod I have ended up with has been chosen purely on how I think it will work based on application. Looked at the: Majorcraft Giant Killing & Crostage, Expert Graphite, Jignesis Slow, various Daiwa's, Palms Metalwitch, Oceans Legacy Slow, Shimano Grappler & Game Type J.

I already have a dedicated metal jig combo (Shimano & Yamaga) so this was just for the soft plastics!

Ended up going with a Shimano Game Type J S652.

Reel feels nice with the rod, with a touch more length which should give a good action to the jigs.

Cheers.

I run the same combo older model twinpower 5k on the type j 652 with pe2 and rate it very highly  I don't use it as much as I should as I much prefer using my overhead jig outfits but when I do it's a joy to use
