new sounder info help

Mate of mine needs a new sounder, was an old black and white lowrance and now looking for a colour. Should have around $800 -1k to spend can anyone recommend something decent in that price range cheers, jim.

If you end up going a Lowrance HDS5 check out BIAS boating in Claremont. They had them for cheaper than BCF had them for even with club price about 4 weeks ago. That was with the 83/200khz transducer.

Have a look at the furuno

Have a look at the furuno 520's as well. There was some on special before with a tranducer for under a grand before. Only thing thats not great about them is the resolution and that its not as easy to interface with a plotter. With the HDS, if you get the combo you can use it for marking ground a lot more accurately (i.e. backtracking on the unit). Depending on your other unit, you may be able to send the marks across (you can do this with some furuno/chartplotters though)
