New Rig

Picked myself up a little boat for river use, have set it up with Sounder, rod rack, and all important drink holders. Weighs 60kg, fits in the back of the ute, and with the folding wheels can be launched single handedly pretty much anywhere. Got a 5hp Mariner dirt cheap, had it serviced and it runs like a charm! Cheap boating!!!

Took it out in the Sound last week and got a feed of smaller fry, and broke it's river cherry last night, landing a dozen Bream between 28-38cm! Does about 12-13 knots one up, and is very cheap to run!

Looks like a hybrid between

Looks like a hybrid between a yak and a boat, hehe. Good to see you've gotten a few fish off it already. I'm sure the first of many.

Could imagine you could launch it in a lot of places you could launch a yak, so could be quite versatile in launching spots (sucks with even a small boat that you might have to drive say 5nm to get somewhere half a mile offshore sometimes). Any laws in regards to that?

So, how it is having a motor that runs on petrol power not muscle power? Laughing

Hybrid is bang on!

Weighs the same as a Hobie Pro-Angler!! It's not my first dinghy, but the first since taking up yakking, is a bit different, certainly not the excersise i'm used too, but is very relaxing way to spend the evening, and great for taking the nephews and friends out for a bream bash. Don't know of any laws regarding launching it anywhere, only the distance out to see/length of vessel rule, so will be inshore only. Tho i took it out on the Sound last week for a run, and it was fine. You'd want to pick your nights tho i'd say, and for me, i'll be keeping the yaks for offshore!!

Oh, and no Skippers ticket required!

How stable is it? Do you fish standing up in it?

You would need the rum on a cold night on the river.

Now with the motor and drink holders you are going to develop a beer gut and it might not be so stable after a whileTongue out

Roughly

bout $1200, including motor, rego for the boat, service for the motor, folding wheels on the back, few bits and pieces for fitout, sounders of an old yak, so's battery and rod holders. The Finn Spindrift is about $1200 brand new, this ones also lightweight plastic, and is just over 55kg empty. You can sometimes buy seconds from the factory cheap! Why the are seconds will vary, but sometimes it's hard to find.. Usually cosmetic.

Half the price of a new Hobie Kayak, and cheaper than any of mine...
