Mullet on Lures?

Hi guys

I know the best way to catch mullet is with bread/ dough, but i was wondering if they can be caught on HB lures and/or soft plastics?

I walked down this morning and every plastic/ HB lure i threw on and next to the school just spooked them. Sometimes when it was right infront of their nose they just ignored it and swam over it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Maybe sp but I wouldn't think a hb would do the trick unless you jag one. If you manage to pull it off though let us know.

Hooked and lost a solid one

Hooked and lost a solid one on fly at palm beach, and they also take the sabiki bait jigs suspended under a float and burley cage, not as much fun unless you're keeping them..

Hi there,Did hook one up on

Hi there,

Did hook one up on HB but lost it half way through the fight. Took an Ofmer Catwalk surface stickbait, which look similar to Atomic K9 Pup but slightly heavier at 3.5g coated with S Factor.

Met a few boys there and told them about it and they started catching them on Snapback grubs coated with S Factor. Snapback is used bcos of the blowie population out there.

Notice the mullets become extremely active an hour before sunset and you can see them jumping about in huge schools n creating huge ripples here and there as they mark around the shallows. Their dorsal fins are also visible and I guess this is the right time to do sight casting for them.

Gotta be patient though cos landed probably one in 4 hours of casting but it is extremely exciting due to the fact you are sight casting to the school.

Sorry, didn't take any photos but David or Guy if you are reading this, please post your photos up.

The mullet caught is 1-2kg in size and extremely FAT~! Kept one for tea and notice the amount of fat in the abdomen area when gutting it. Sad to say it sucks on the table. Going to release all my mullet caught next time.

Oh yes, the school is so thick at times you probably can jag one when you blaze your lure across them!

Cheers

thanks guys ill check out all the lures on the net and see what i can do.

talk about sight casting, over in Applecross/ Attadale the water is so shallow and clear you can see them school up and jump.

Yep i've jagged heaps with a metal slice when they just sit in like 10cm of water. Quite often the vibrations given off when i slam the slice into the water stuns a few of them then i pick them up, revive them then let them go. It would be more satisfaction if i could actually catch one in the mouth haha.
