Agree- Not good. Watched the Police helicopter yesterday and wondered what was going on.

The swell yesterday was breaking near the Coathanger,  even on the jetski I decided to stay inside Cockburn Sound.

 Search boats are in Safety

Tue, 2017-03-28 08:14

Search boats are in Safety Bay now, always an unnerving sight. Reminder to everyone not to take safety on the water for granted.

Tue, 2017-03-28 10:23

I was out yesterday morning and the swell was really cranking, way bigger than what i expected and the biggest ive seen in a while. The reefs from carnac to stragglers were breaking just about all the way across as one close-out

Tue, 2017-03-28 12:55

Not sure yet- The police helicopter has been doing grid search all morning from the Sisters Rocks back towards Point Peron.

Emergency groups now got quad bikes seaching the local beaches.

Really feel for the Families waiting for any sort of News.

Add my condolences for the guys families too.

Not sure if same thing happened there but i noticed out at row boat rock on Saturday guys were still anchoring on a short length at back of reef right where swell comes through.

Please dont do this as when a slightly larger swell comes through the anchor holds you down and boat cant ride over top of swell swamping the boat.

 I'm not against old fellers

Tue, 2017-03-28 16:39

I'm not against old fellers going fishing, i am 76 myself, but I realise, that I am not as nimble as I used to be, and I never go out in a big swell, and ALWAYS wear an inflatable PFD, you can't be too sure at my age, so it is best to be safe, how sad for thier families.

Whitworths do good prices

Tue, 2017-03-28 18:27

n150 fits most size people, Whitworths currently have 150N Marlins manual inflatable for $49.

And this will no doubt start an argument of the merits of manual vs auto inflation, which I intend to stay out of.   Whitworths often have the Hutchwilco manual 150N , kiwi made, for $70.

Next thing it will be mandatory

Tue, 2017-03-28 20:48

To wear one. (Way things are going ). Gas ones or manual ones pretty comfy.  Age could have been factor in  this tragic accident . Makes you sit back and think sometimes. I make sure my grandkids or young kids always wear one in my boat now days. Didn't really think about it much when I had young kids . I do now. Ocean can be very unforgiving sometimes. Can have all safety equipment the lot ( may not help) depends on situation . Rip to fisherman yesterday .

  Life jacket is mandatory

Wed, 2017-03-29 07:43

Life jacket is mandatory when out on Jetski(obviously for different risk reasons). But it now feels strange if I don't put it on,same as seat belt when getting into car.

I've taken to wearing one this year

Tue, 2017-03-28 21:07

At least always while I'm going solo. As little johnny said, gas inflatable ones are comfy, you'll forget you have it on. (just hope I don't forget it if I'm in the drink)  oh, and BCF have them on special, too. No excuses, cost stuff all for a couple.

Like ranmar, just his year

Wed, 2017-03-29 06:54

Like ranmar, just his year I've taken to wearing a manual inflatable while solo and when boat is underway. I take it off when stopped, but back on again before starting motor.

If you end up in the drink, motor running in gear and no-one on board, your are in trouble.
