Help me sort out my jigging set up

Hey fellas :)

Currently I have a stradic 8000 with 40lb braid and a 30lb fin nor rod.

I want to target demershals such as dhufish and snapper and also sambos.

I'm wondering if I need a 30-50lb jigging rod for the sambos and another spool to put 50lb braid on or is 40lb plenty? I got the stradic as an all round reel :)

cheers

Id suggest you'd be best off going for a heavier rod for the sambos. If you're jigging in say 80m of water you'd probably want to be jigging 300 gram jigs. For your demersals (say 40m depth) you're probably going to use around 100 gram jigs. Your 30lb fin nor rod will do demersals but will have a hard time jigging 300 gram jigs and may not have the back bone needed to slow down an angry sambo in deep water. I started with a pe1.5-4 rod and got spanked many times. Now use a pe4-8 and it feels much better. The more you do each style of fishing the more you realise there is no "all round set up". If you can afford a sambo rod do it.... The more fishing toys the better!  :)

For your sambos best bet would be to load your Stradic up with something like the Ocea Ex8 pe4 braid. Expensive, but awesome stuff. You should get about 250m on your reel and it's rated at 70lb!  Really for your demersal jigging I'd consider your 8000 a little bulky. You could go nice and light with a Stradic 4000 or 5000... Once again it's hard to get one outfit to do all jobs.
