Of all pro fishermen.   Not suggesting for one moment that 99percent aren't scrupulously honest but there are increasingly bad eggs everywhere

“The McGowan government won’t

Thu, 2020-06-25 15:07

“The McGowan government won’t countenance crooks and cheats who want to steal off the people.”

I like that comment at the end of the Article.

Hopefully this will apply to the latest Govt Senior Public Servant who has so far stolen $25 million from taxpayers of WA.

The total amount of taxpayer money allegedly rorted from the state's public sector by a senior public servant could reach $25 million, police prosecutors claim.

And Attorney General John Quigley warned West Australians to prepare for more shocks as a Corruption and Crime Commission inquiry into the scandal gathered steam.

Prosecutors alleged in court on Friday morning there was evidence to suggest a false invoicing scheme allegedly orchestrated by Paul Ronald Whyte, 56, could have dated back as far as 2008 and seen a further $20-25 million fleeced from the public purse, on top of the $2.5 million already alleged.

After they sieze and sell all

After they sieze and sell all your assests you might want to stay a little longer than 10 years so you have food and board.

 It's a shame the commercial

Thu, 2020-06-25 18:06

It's a shame the commercial shark fisherman who catch a couple of thousand kilos of dhueys in their nets as a 'bycatch' per day don't coo the same treatment.

Now that would make your eyes water

Thu, 2020-06-25 18:38

A penalty like that would have to make your eyes water, the fisheries cert ainly have some very serious penalties for convicted wrong doers.

I also saw a word in today's west that I never in my wildest dreams thought I would see in a paper, the word is "trillion" the only time I ever heard that word was when I was a young kid and a friend asked me how many stars where in the sky.

to see it used in relation to a countries dept is truly scary imo

Yep and all the blame will be

Yep and all the blame will be on the Virus and the Oil price war, not the fact that we've had corrupt, self serving politicians that are never held to account for the past 30 years. Criminals in suits the lot of them.

Great news and a welcome

Fri, 2020-06-26 09:07

Great news and a welcome reminder to the pro community that if you do not follow the rules you will lose your licence and be fined, he should have forfeited a lot more personally, being gear and boat as well. His boat should be displayed in Gero as a reminder of what penalties apply just as they do to recs at the local boat ramps with confiscated boats, logistically may be hard, but hopefully you see my point.
Like anywhere, most people do the right thing but it is also great to see some form of action against those who do not.

Not new

Sat, 2020-06-27 06:43

Over the years there have been a few pros who had a whisper in their ear to get out of the industry or lose the lot, seems he wasn't one and has copped both well deserved barrels. Good job.

I went out for a ride with a mate at Two Rocks and as we were about to throw ropes off two fisheries officer hopped on board and inform skipper that they were on for the day. . While I was chatting to both officers down the back of the boat skipper was ringing the skipper of their other boat also working Two Rocks area telling him that we were going to start on the south end of his line of pots and could he move 20 pots from the north end some 10nm away so the officers would only get the correct number.

He is no longer driving his fathers boat as the old man got a whisper in the ear too.

If you google search his name you will see he recently spent time behind bars for drugs.
Seems a history of poor decisions.
