GOT A RUN!!!!!!!!!!!

Well a pretty wierd thing happend last night after dropping my mate Kristian off after fishing.

I will start the story off by saying that less than 2 weeks ago i re-spooled my penn850 up with new 25pound line
(this will be important later in the story)

I carry the fishing rods in my WRX and poking out the passenger window resting nicly on the mirror.

I pulled into kristians driveways and he exited the car. He then reached in through the window and pulled his rod out unknowing to us both that he had got tangled on his rod and my bail arm was over so as i reversed back i had no idea that i was still connected to Krisian somehow.

So as i was reversing i noticed a car about 500 meters away and progressed to pull out then went to drive of when all hell broke loose!!!!!!

As the car went past me in the opposite direction all i heard was PSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! REALLY LOUD NON STOP! I was thinking.. "what the hell is that noise???"
By the way, my WRX is really loud and i still heard it over the exaust!!

I look over at my fishing rod and notice line screaming off my rod at a very high rate of knots!!!!!

All i thought was "Oh no i have hooked Kristian!!!" So i pulled over but the line was still screamin off the reel! Things now were desperate!! It was getting down to the end of my line and there was no way i was putting my hand near line coming off the reel that fast! I thought ...
"oh no maybe its caught in the engine some how???" I then turned engine off and it was still screamin off the reel then finally it just stopped

I got out the car and noticed that the line was 300+ meters down the road

As i backed out the line must of been connected to Kristian somehow and the car drove through it! I was doing 60 heading east and the other car was heading west doung 60! Thats 120 klm per hour run!!!

I had a good chuckle about it until i noticed that the new killer line i payed $40+ for was now off the reel  then noticed that it cut through 2 of my mouldings and burnt the paint on the piller

Oh well things could be worse... a motorbike could of come though and cut his throat open on the fishing line, the line could of spooled me to the knot and then i would of had a broken fishing rod  or Kristian could of been badly hurt from a fishing hook ripping through him at 60+klm per hour.

Couple pics....

spooled!

Looks like Penn 10x, you should give 'em a call and get some advertising dollars to fix your wagon, Hardehar. You would have been crapping your daks when you had pulled up and she was still singin, very funny story and as you say could have been much worse.

I think that could go down for catch of the month

Mon, 2008-06-16 07:25

Lucky you heard the line going out, it may have been disastrous if you got down to the terminal knott at the reel.

Tighten up your drag you woos

Wink
Seriously that was very lucky no-one was hurt. We did something similar whan a new deckie popped the rods in the rocket launchers for the drive to the ramp down at Mandurah. Clipped a tree leaving the house and lost a heap of line before I realised.

What tyres are you running Marc?

Mon, 2008-06-16 09:05

I got rid of the Potenzas on my 3.0RB Liberty and stuck some Federal FD2's on. They stick like glue and are about 25% less than the Potenzas, and at that price thats a big saving.

Yeah they are good tyres

Mon, 2008-06-16 09:15

Yeah they are good tyres there Andy!

I have just cheapish bridgestones.
I acually didnt want to much grip because with the 6 puck ceramic clutch it will put to much strain on the g/box lol.

Last time i dropped the clutch at high RPM it blew the box to pieces!! $2800 later......

Now that i drive a little more sensible i might have to check out them federals :)

Cheers

very true there , drive them too hard and they cost big bucks, nice to drive, but not the most comfy car inside interior wise, especially once they been lowered a bit

Funny stuff

Mon, 2008-06-16 10:21

G'day Marc, I knew where that story was headed when I read the second line. Ha haa.  I have seen people do that at noat ramps.  Drive the boat out with lures on the rod, get a hook up on a nearby tree and they just keep going :)

On the Subaru note, I read that they are bringing out a limited edition souped up Liberty.  Sounds nice!

Hi Ya, Just as well you

Tue, 2008-06-24 11:46

Hi Ya,

Just as well you before completely spooling, otherwise you might have had a window to replace.  That would have changed the look on ya face.

Souped up Liberty.  When my daughter bought her Liberty, there was an STi version on the show room floor.  All black.  Very nice.

Cheers.
