Fishing holes rather than lumps?
Submitted by gibbs on Thu, 2013-05-16 21:25
Hi all, just looking over some charts for a few spots for Saturday and have noticed a few holes out wide. I know we normally fish lumps but has anyone had success fishing this sort of thing? Depth is from 30-40 and 40-55.
thinking about giving it a shot

Structure
Never a bad idea to fish any sort of structure. Probably worth having a sound around the edges looking for a drop off. Let us know how you get on.

Definately worth a try, as above possibly has a ledge somehwere along it. Also I have fished a couple of small holes (talking 5 metre wide) in a bay which were basically a shallow depressions with no ledge etc and pulled snapper and KG's at the right times.

Agree, worth a shot
We stumbled across a spot one day while adrift after blowing a power steerin hose, it was only a small trench about 2 metres deep in 50m of water. Was absolutely loaded with fish.

yep I've got one off two rocks called 'cuttlefish hole'. 1 it has cuttle fish and plenty of them!! which in turn make good bait for the dhu's and baldies that reside int he same hole!

Bottom density
One of the reasons why I take more notice in the colour changes on the sounder indicating the bottom density hardening or turning to sand.
Many times you are looking for lumps when its holes in the bottom that produce most fish.
