Fishing Diary's

After another shite night of fishing at Quinns Beach I have decided to start a fishing diary.

So, to all of you much advanced anglers then myself, what  sort of information would you collect? so that the next time you want to go fishing you can check your diary and know if its worth leaving a comfy warm loungeroom for.

Thanks

Shortly.

G'day shortly

ahh Perth land based fishing Is shocking! I keep a dairy with date, time and tide, moon phase, place, catch, bait and rig. larger fish a few and far between. but herring are around alot however not as much as they used to be.

I had agreat night at Quinns about a month ago, had light gear and a glow stick, no weight and just burlied up by putting burley just into the breakers and letting the waves break over it. This kept the fish in the casting range of my light rig. I let the bail arm off and waited untill I saw my white bait move off counted to 2 then bang. Its a fun way to fish. The fish were on like donkey kong that night though...

I've just started created a database which allows me to capture

  • date
  • time
  • location
  • gps position
  • tide
  • moon
  • swell
  • wind
  • water temp
  • tackle
  • rig
  • bait
  • species caught
  • qty
  • weight (kg)
  • additional comments
  • Now just need to create an interface which allows me to enter in current fishing conditions & spits out any previous matching trips!

    Write to Bill!

carassius, write to Bill (through the Gates) ..... I'm sure he'll provide an interface that's rock solid without glitches (but wait 5 years for the bugs to be ironed out) Tongue out

Seriously though, that's a very good list! Other than water temp - one thermocline or all of them? Undecided

Ok, really serious this time, perhaps cloud cover?

    Colin

PS - Lap top - Access DB perhaps?

Rob, we had a great night

    Fri, 2008-04-25 14:54

Rob, we had a great night there about 3 to 4 weeks ago as well. But the past 2 weekends,(last Sat at White Hills and then last night at Quinns) we feel like we shouldnt of even bothered.

Between the weed and the swell on both occassionas it just wasnt worth going.

So now its time to learn a bit more about swell etc, moon and tides and see if that helps.

Carassius, sounds like it will be a good program when its done. I will definitely use some of that info for my diary. Thanks

    No data yet!!

    Sat, 2008-04-26 08:47

Unfortunately there is no data in there yet, never bothered collecting info in the NT & only new to WA fishing so maybe in a few years might be worth protecting ha ha

Happy to share program when completed, it's only in beta for at mo, just pm me if interested

Edit: It's been created in Access, but doesn't give me the power I want, so have already started redesigning in SQLFishing Diary

Looks great carassius - maybe a photo as well, to show surface conditions, cloud cover etc? Haven't messed with SQL for years, and then that was mainframe sql (3270 architecture (Amdahl 5890 - 400e if I remember correctly - goodness I'm old Foot in mouth) )

Oh, and you mispelt Carnac Island  Tongue out (First QA consultation provided free of charge Cool)
