Fisherman bashed

A 24-year-old fisherman remains in a serious condition in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after he was bashed at a beach near Perth yesterday.

Police say he was hit over the head with a torch after a fight broke out with another man during a camping trip near the Alkimos wreck.

A 25-year-old man from Craigie has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and will appear in court on Wednesday.

Sergeant Nick Steel says the victim faces a long recovery period.

"He still has extensive fractures to the face, including a broken jaw, several fractures around his upper head, one near his eye socket on the right hand side that's caused bruising and bleeding around the brain," he said.

Sergeant Steel says the man was on the phone to his wife just moments before the bashing and she called police for help.

"The lady's heard some of the commotion, heard some groaning and called the police straight away so it was very lucky that he happened to be talking to her on the phone at the time and our response was a little bit quicker.

the guy got into a skuffle went to his car pulled out a unloaded gun and pointed at the offender so the offender reacted by beating him with a torch . me personally have no simpathy for the guy in hospital he shouldnt have pulled a gun. if some 1 pulled a gun wouldnt you react the same way????

Do you think the guy just decided to stop fishing go to his car pull out a gun and threaten an innocent passer by?
I don think so, I dont know the details but I doubt it
use a bit of common sense! and if someone pulled a gun on me I'd run like hell!!!
Actually reading it again was it a stranger or was he camping with the bloke? if it was his mate then they're both as bad as each other! and I appologise.

To all the virgins..............Thanks for nothing!

I think we just need to be a bit cautious with this one, we are unaware of the circumstances.  The whole instance is just a really sad reflection of what certain segments of society is turning into IMO.  Christmas day cricket now fishing, scared to think of whats next.  Frown
