When you say a fisheries career. Are you talking about working for the Department of Fisheries, or areyou taling about working as a deckie, or are you talking about working in the fishing tackle industry?

Not easy to walk into as a job but a slow road up from what i've seen. The little steps ie VFLO will help etc!

All the best!

LOL FF, speak for yourself.

Yes, OT, as #1 says, perhaps if you can give us a more precise description of where you see yourself - what area do you want to get into?

Study hard mate, do your

Wed, 2008-06-11 18:55

Study hard mate, do your TEE and get the scores to hit UWA or Murdoch for a Marine Biology course. That will get your hair all grey but it will be worth it mate.

But if your willing to work hard, get a trade and earn the bucks later on once the learning curve is all over red rover!

Still 2 years and a bit for me and I'm done.

Cheers lads,

Darda. H

Great advice there Elora,

Great advice there Elora, got a daughter headed in the same direction (still in High School at the mo') and, through research and the like, we've found that for marine biology it's a long row to hoe. She's committed herself to getting that job now and gets occasionally snowed under with extra study but is determined to do it. We try to help her out with the work but I'm afraid most of it's a bit beyond me so we provide moral support instead.
If you find it's your bag good luck and go for it.
Cheers, Daisy

Determination!

Wed, 2008-06-11 21:11

Hi Daisy,

Yeah at the end of the day its all about your mentality and the way you approach whats needed to be done. I was stuck with that "What do I want to do?" question through out High School. So I did the TEE because I didn't know what I wanted to do, but now I'm a Architechure/Design Apprentice for a Landscaping company. So I still have the scores to get me into Uni as a back up.

You never know when there's gonna be a subtle change in careers later on in life!

Cheers lads,

Darda. H
