Fireline Exceed
Submitted by Mattyvaus on Wed, 2011-08-03 09:42
Recently changed over from 6lb Fireline to the 6lb Fireline Exceed.
The Exceed seems to be far weaker especially at the knot.
Just wondering if I have got a bad batch, or if anyone else has experienced this?

Remember that fireline breaks
Remember that fireline breaks massively above and beyond what the packet says. 6lb fireline could break at over 15lb. Not sure if quite the same with exceed. What knots are you doing? Do you have any scales to measure what its breaking at (you can use some kind of water container and kitchen scales if you really want to know if its the line or the knot).

ive been using 3.3lb exceed
ive been using 3.3lb exceed best bream line ive used so far for casting.
But i have not experienced it breaking at the knot yet maybe a bad batch or the knot you are using.
I will not go past this line in future for strength and diameter so thin compared to other braids but does only go up to 22lb which my mate uses and so far so good just waiting for something big now to test it properly.
to fish or not to fish is that even an option?

fireline exceed
i have been using the 5.5lb exceed and i think its great, very smooth for casting and lays on the reel well (1000 ci4) i dont think it breaks massively over its rated strength anymore (like the old fireline)as the new stuff is very thin but i havent noticed any breakages, i love the stuff cheers (i can't wait for the 300m spools to come out!!)

The funny thing is in the US
The funny thing is in the US it's 300m (330yard) spools but then in aus it's 300yard spools? Then people say it's because it's American.. Well why do the Americans get the 330's ? What the.

I have been using an albright
I have been using an albright knot.
I think I was just expecting it to be as strong as the standard fireline(I think the 6lb breaks at over 12lb)

Great line overall no knot
Great line overall no knot breakages yet, cast very well, similar to nanofil abit(over rated hype), in saying that i did have some normal fireline that kept breaking at well below the rated strength.

breaks
a mate had berkley exceed and it kept breaking, and not at the knot either. he thinks at some parts its thinner diametre not consistent all the way threw !!! i cant see berkley making a stuff up like that, they spend millions on the technology
but i have 10lb exceed and not a break yet hmmm wierd

fireline smoke
Mate the fireline exceed sucks balls!! I always do knot tests with every line i buy. i do this by getting 2 huge swivels and tying 1m of that line to each end. I test first of all the line weight by seeing if the line breaks at the knot or at the line its self. if the line breaks at the knot then you must find a better knot for that particular line as it might have more potential. the best line for me is the fireline smoke grey 30 lb which i take to quobba with me. this line has a heavier breaking straign then even 65lb line which has the same diameter, and it is also better for the rocks!!!!
The other line i use for the beach here is whiplash!!! it is thin,Soft and strong as shit! i put money that it is stronger then any other line of its diameter othor then fireline original. please someone prove me wrong and guide me to a stronger thinner line then whiplash. Thank you!
