Fibreglass questions

Hey guys.

have been doin a bit of reading into maintenance of fibreglass hills as seem to have a lot of spare time at the moment.

have read some conflicting things about gelcoat chips/gouges and was after some clarification.
If you have a chip which exposes the fibreglass, does this need to be fixed straight away, or can the boat still be used without creating lasting damage? Some things I have read say ok to leave and fix up in batches where others say need to be done ASAP or risk delamimation.

reason I ask, is I am sure I will be getting some Dings and chips along the way, just hoping to find out if it warrants sacrificing a day out fishing, or if can wait to another day?

any advice greatly appreciated!

cheers

goat.

Through experience it doesn't need to be fixed straight away just need to keep an eye on it . If it's a crack then it will need further examination. Usually a small chip is only cosmetic . Depends on the depth

Different application to fit diff circumstances.
As a anti fouled hull can hide pinhole bubbles in them and would need major repair work.(Major hull check with very slip) Have too sand and grind damaged area right out like a dish and re build the fiberglass up .Exposed fiberglass VERY BAD water encroaches up the glass fibers.Just Gel-coat chips NOT SO BAD.

cheers!

thats what i thought, but some people were saying was fine to use even if fibreglass was exposed, whcih seemed strange to me! Im a fairly cautious person, so think wouldnt take the chance if it was me. gonna have to learn how to do minor patchups eventually.

the stacer still on consignment unfortnately... didnt have any luck selling provately and not too many people buying boats at the moment it seems!
