Exmouth Access
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Fri, 2008-03-28 17:58
Hi guys
Does anyone have an update on acces to Exmouth at the moment with the rain of late? I have a road trip planned up there leaving tuesday 1 April. Are the Cape roads still driveable? I'll be in a 4wd.
Thanks
Tim

Good luck guys. Should be ok
Good luck guys. Should be ok by then if the rain stops. We lost a new Patrol last night in the flood waters. The amount of water around at the moment is unbelievable. Just take it easy.
So far there has been around 600mm of rain in Exmouth since Tues night. The roads into town have been closed on and off over the last few days when the heavy rain falls and also the roads heading out to the lighthouse are flodded. If anyone knows Exmouth picture driving up to the turnoff to the lighthose and there is a lake of water on each side of the road. Up to 2mtrs deep in some areas. Also there is a lot of crap on the roads like dirt, mud and rocks so be careful. Watch the floodways as thats where you will get into trouble.
As for the fishing well will have to wait and see. The Gulf is a mess as is the west side. I cant see any fishing done in the gulf for a few weeks.
Also if anyone is staying at the lighthouse caravan park give them a call as i went past yesterday and the place was empty. Before the rain there were quite a few people so they may have shut down.

Its one of those things
Its one of those things fishy. Will have to see when you get up here. When i got here a few weeks ago the gulf was still dirty and the west side was the same from the last cyclone. Didn't find the blue water until about the 300mtr mark but out the back of the islands it was not to bad. It took a few weeks befor it cleared up but there was still a few fish around.
Drop me a msg and i will let you know whats doing before you head up here. Even if the fishing is slow its still worth heading out and having a bit of fun.
Worst case scinario is i know the Potshot has cold beer. lol
