Dirk Hartog

  Gday all

The Misses and I are off to Denham again as we do most years and are going to do a sleep over on the old crestcutter at Turtle bay which we have       never been there before.  I have a few Qestions

Are you allowed to land on the island and walk up to Cape inscription to have a look at where harthog landed and then hop back on the boat or     should I contact the ECO resort on the Island .

Can you anchor at turtle bay for the night

  Thanks in advance

Yes to all your questions and no to having to notify anyone about going onto the island.

It is safe to anchor in Turtle bay but remember it is open to any wind from the north

Anchored in Turtle bay for

Anchored in Turtle bay for the night in around 2002 and had a monsterous south easterly for the majority of the time with a swell curling around the corner. in a 60 foot yacht, we were anchored a fair way out and it was far from pleasent, perticularly the 0200-0400 anchor watch.

Just watch the conditions.

 That's not the easiest walk

That's not the easiest walk though... elevation is right up there from the bay to the top of the rocks..

Just got back 2 weeks ago and yes it can be heavy on the north side. We camped at Withnell for a couple and with the WNW ly it was a magic spot (protection wise). We hit turtle bay and it was beautiful though i wouldnt have thrown a pick over to sleep with the swell running around. Dates were 12 , 13 14, 15 th of july if you need to look back on conditions . I would love to see it when calmer on the west but that will have to be next time fortunatly.
