Digging Bloodworms!
Submitted by Elora Danan on Tue, 2008-06-03 09:12
Gday fellow fisho's,
I was just reading through a Forum Topic here under the name of "Canning Bridge". There's a little thing that Mr. Faulkner brought up with Digging for Blood worms.
I haven't seen anyone do it for a long time, so I just wanted to clear some things up just of curiosity.
Is it banned?
Could we still dig for Bloodworms in our Swan or Canning River Systems?
Certain area's that are banned from doing it?
All this might actually help me find some Bream soon.
Cheers guys!

yeah i used to dig for
yeah i used to dig for bloodworms around redcliffe
the rule ussually is u have to be 5 feet from the river bank to stop destruction of habitat
and b careful of the head coz it has pinsers that they use to cut through branches that will probably try and get you
around canning u might b a chance for a cockel also a good bait :)

Low water line and....
Man, been sooooo many years since I did that, but (if my memory serves me well), the correct thing to do is dig beyond the low water line and replace your 'dig'. Not sure if there any laws etc (now) from (what is now) the Swan River Trust etc.

Well I think I better not
Well I think I better not take the risk and give it a crack. The prawns do well anyway. Its good thing to probably research through though.

Worms protected
G'day Russ
Yeah, now that you've mentioned it, I vaguely rmember something about that, so I went looking at the WA Stae Law Publishing website - both at:
The Fish Resource Management Act (1994):
http://www.slp.wa.gov.au/pco/prod/FileStore.nsf/Documents/MRDocument:5921H/$FILE/FishResMgtAct1994_02-f0-00.html?OpenElement
(another rediculously long URL!)
The Fish Resource Management Regulations (1195):
http://www.slp.wa.gov.au/pco/prod/FileStore.nsf/Documents/MRDocument:7253H/$FILE/FishResMgtRegs1995_07-g0-00.html?OpenElement
(ditto!!)
- no luck.
Then I thought, perhaps it ws an environmental issue, so I went to the Swan River Trust:
http://portal.environment.wa.gov.au/portal/page?_pageid=973,2910247&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
..which refrred me over to the SLP site.
As I'm 51, I think I'd die of old age before I sift through all of this.
I'm sure that they don't make it easy is just accidental
I might drop both DPI and the SWMT an email and see what they say!
