So im telling dad that you have to have a leader when using braid, he recons fuck it go straight to your swivel.
its clearly obvious we dont use braid often but we thought nothing wrong with giving it ago. if hes right we would like to know which knot you use.
cheers

Hi Zack your off to quobba
Hi Zack your off to quobba hey, I would highly recommend a wind on leader off min 80lb as the ledges there are basically oysters and braid won't last 2 sec against it. But to join the two can be a bit difficult I have found the Bimini twist is your strongest not to join them but is a pain in the ass not. I have found that it is a lot easier to use mono up there .

depends on the purpose, but
depends on the purpose, but usually lures, droppers, gangs perform much better when on a leader.
for lazy fishing, ie: chasing some plump whiting in the sound, i can sometimes be lazy and not put a leader on a small dropper... but anything bigger, dhus, pinks, or anythign up north, always have leader.

definitely use a leader mate
I always use "wind on leaders" some say theyre expensive but unless im bricked or snag bottom i generally get 12 months out of them before i replace them so not expensive at all.
Its called a catspaw (multiple loop to loop) to join braid to the leader. Ive never had a failure to date.

I am with your old man, have fished with braid for over 10 years and used leaders very seldom. I have found if you use a longer dropper on your rigs it has much the same effect as a wind on. have always used much the same knot as mono just double the line and go more wraps. Although if fishing really ledgey type bottom i can see how the leaders would be of some advantage.Up to you trial and error, and work out what best suits your type of fishing.

Long dropper
Go as long a dropper you cast. That's all I use there, the reality is fishing at quobba you will get snagged or sharked and a wind on leader won't help you one bit. You want to be setup up to quickly tie on another rig or lure and cast out. Most people spinning lures use a wire trace 300mm long and about 500mm of 80lb+ mono then tied however you like to your braid. When snapper bashing try the longest leader you can cast which is usually just over 1 metre

when i landbase baits i use braid to 40-100 lbs leader of rod length and casting drop tied with either allbright/PR/FG then to multistrand wire up to 100 lbs tied with allbright then tie on hook with a knot that barrel rolls down the shank and tag shoots under rolls,
sorry dont know name of that knot also have running sinker on leader or wire. I dont use swivles up here

Guys also dont forget the
Guys also dont forget the mono leader provides alot of stretch when a fish strikes and you strike back! When I first started using braid a mate told me I didnt need to tie the braid to mono and he tied the braid straight to a swivel, next cast mr salmon comes along and snaffles my live mullet, I strike and the braid snaps instantly just because there was no stretch.
Ever since then I've always tied on a mono leader via double uni, I never cast that knot through the guides unless its like 8lb leader..

cheers for the reply guysss,
cheers for the reply guysss, what brand of leader would yous suggest, i want to use leader sounds like it all makes sence heey, but dno because theres heaps of roacks around, sharks and might gett hammered so maybe a leader is a waist of time up there, because a bimini twist with 30 knot easterlys on the rock isnt what you wanna do out and aboutt
cheers tho guys helped heaps
