Collie redfin?

 Hi Guys

Anyone fished the Collie near Minninup Pool? Went there on Sunday for a look and thought it would be a good spot to take the kids in a canoe. Just wondering if there are any redfin in this area? Had a quick search and theres one post from a few years ago saying there was some but have had some dry winters since.

Any help would be appreciated.

Plenty of redfin in the collie river i done well there this past summer. If your going to minningup pool I'd drive the track left or right for a while until the river gets a bit skinnier and more snaggy.

I've tried below the dam a few times (honeymoon pool) but only ever seen or caught trout there. Do you fish that area for the redfin or further downstream? Wondering if it's worth another go there myself. I've also been told by locals there's no trout in or above the dam, not sure how true that is but I'm yet to come across one there.

There are a few trout in the dam but they are a very rare capture. The guy who lives in his caravan on the edge of the dam told me he had caught 3 over about 9 yrs he had been fishing it. I have caught Redfin up to 47cm in the dam though I never get the same sort of numbers I get at Harvey dam. Seems very strange to have a dam the size of Wellington and not stock it with fish, if the dam was in any other state of Australia or probably any country in the world they would stock it with fish. Could be a huge tourist drawcard but its just sitting there doing nothing.

I believe wellington dam is most valued for its marron fishery so people are unwilling to stock it, although Harvey is trophy marron waters too...

The marron season is for only a few weeks per year where as you can fish there 365 days a year. Redfin predate on marron too so I doubt stocking it with other fish would have any impact on numbers.
