Things have gone quiet in the Sound, fish are still around in smaller numbers atm. Locating them on your sounder near ground being a far better option than pulling up on a bit of ground. Berley generally doesnt bring a school in but holds fish in an area "if" they're there.
I see Daniel Westerduin has reported that a 4.5 plus metre shark was nudging his boat out in the Sound yesterday whilst doing a bit of Pinky fishing, if you are in a small boat thats something to consider,,Daniel reports he was frigtened in a 5.4 metre boat.

I was out on the sambo aggs last year and a mako of 6m plus came and eye balled us for a few minutes, that scared the begeezus out of me and I was on a charter boat with 8mm plate sides !!!!.
I really want to see a yak out there as after a long fight from a yak there will be a couple of Mako's following the fish up and will use it's teeth to investigate a little log floating in the water . it would be like a pinyata , once they unwrap it there is some goodies inside to eat.
I don't even think they would have time to radio ( even if it worked that far out) for help.
I plan to jump in this year on a snapper school to take some footage with a mate, big biteys do shadow some of these schools....i'll be wearing my shark shield with a can of harden up!

I went out from 5 - 8, burleied up a block of mulies and my baits didnt get a so much as a sniff.
They would of been 15-20 boats out there and talking to a few at the ramp only think caught was a Shovel nose from 7 hours fishing.
Good thing is the sounder works :P.

Hey #3
Hey Col, as far as Dan's shark is concerned, I'd (just) rather be in a small tinny that a (almost) surface level Yak.
