buying new line

im buying new line for my bream outfit as i have mono on it atm but i want braid...

how heavy shud i have my line?

I mostly catch bread and butter fish off hillarys but also get into big skippy on the boat and whatever else may come along so i dont want to get anything too light.

Running 4lb TD sensor on mine, but had crystal fireline before. Prefer the TD sensor.

On a light  enough rod and line, even herring are fun

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:26

Most bream guys I know use the Bass Hard braid in 4lb or 6lb, I have it on my light gear and it's the best I've used by far in light line classes, and it's orange too...lol

Havnt used TD Sensor tho so cant comment there.

as hobie said the bass hard is very hard to beat i use it almost religiously on my light gear but not overly cheap . if you are a bit short of coin fireline is fine and wont let ya down

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:35

Bit flat, seems to twist easily, and when it does it makes annoying noises on the guides. Had horrible wind knots, but that was probably due to overfilling the spool.

Considering the price though, its not too bad, but I'll get the TD sensor next time (still keeping it on for now though).

It has its good and bad points Colin

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:38

It casts well and sits nicely on the reel, but from my experience it tends to tangle quite easily and to pick up wind knots. I certainly wouldn't use it in rough conditions where there is a bit of weed around. For boat fishing, well that might be a different story.
Of all the braids I have used I like Super Braid. It's PINK but its GOOD.

Colin, I used it for a while

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:38

Colin,

I used it for a while over east on the murray cod and it was fine for that, I was using it in 20lb and 30lb though and found it good in those line classes and conditions, cant comment on it in lighter line classes tho.

Having said that I did end up changing my line to Tuff Line and found it better suited to what I was using it for, Finns PRT was also on one of my reels and that was excellent too.

Thanks Guys!

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:42

OK, thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. One of my step kids bought it for me - 50lb stuff. Since it's just going to be used for bottom bouncing it will be adequate by the sound of it. It's going on a top of the market 330 GTi LOL.

Thu, 2008-09-11 11:11

Col, I have 50lb Platypus braid on my TLD25 and it no drama at all from the boat. It is pretty limp though, so if you happen to get a tangle it can be a bastard to get out. However an experienced bloke like yourself wouldn't ever get tangles.......... would you?

Thu, 2008-09-11 10:59

Playtpus super-braid doesnt come in pink Colin #1  (link)

Colin #2, my experiences were with 8lb stuff and casting. Bottom bouncing I doubt it would have the same problems (or to the same extent), but then I do like the colour coded stuff :D

Yeah it's cammy green. As you say, should be ok for bottom bouncing. Funny you should mention the colour coded stuff, last prezzy from the same step was Tuna Terror.

Hmmm, does that constitute an improvement or backwards LOL.

i've got bass hard and td sensor both in 6lb and i find it very hard to pick the two apart, very similar and imo one of the best lines on the market for this type of fishing (breaming).
