Hi all, I am looking at getting clears fitted on my new boat.
Are there any recommendations of who to go to for good quality and a reasonbly priced product.
I am south of River.
Cheers

Just make sure its a Japanese
Just make sure its a Japanese clear pvc product they use.
More expensive, tho FAR superior to others imported from other countryies.
If it is a sheet form then its the best available, tho size limited.
PM if more detail required.

For cleaning, preferrably use
For cleaning, preferrably use a canned product called Vuplex (excellent product), or if at home then windex will be ok. follow the windex with a wash of clean water to get any residue off the clear.
Under any circumstances, do NOT use any harsh cleaning chemicals or it will stuff your clears up in quick time.
Some clear plastics products (like those retailed in a big chain store!) are built to a price, and simply dont have the required UV inhibitors for them to last. If these materials are used on your boat then there's nothing you can do to prolong their life other than keep them under a throw cover so the sun dont hit it.

Trimmers SOR
Ryan got some trim work done recently by Chivers Marine - Bibra Lake (Travis) and he did a great job.
The other guy we recommend is The Trim Shop - Fremantle (Jason), also does a good job.

German clears
Hi, I rang a few people and going to see some on Sat, one of the places said they use stuff made in Germany. Partly becuase the stuff made in Japan isn't available coz of the Tsunami and Nuclear fallout.
I have a couple of questions. First one is what colour? , I have 2 samples, one clear and the other slightly tinted. What is peoples opinions on the tinted clear? My windscreen is tinted but I think I prefer to have untinted. What do you think?
Second question is what do fellow boaties find best in regards to the front opening zipper. Is one big one best, or two small ones, and is it best when unzipped to have the loose clear come down or is it best to have it that it has to be rolled up at the top of the canopy?

I have untinted clears
and whilst I haven't been in a boat with tinted clears I think I would prefer untinted. My boat has two zippers, one for the passenger and the other for the skipper. I tend to have the skipper's zipper open at all times as it offers a clearer view when under power. At the end of the day you end up looking a bit wind blown and salty but that's all part of the day out isn't it. Both of my zippers roll up at the bottom rather than the top. My only complaint with respect to clears is the domes and studs they use. If you try and pull them apart by hand something invariably breaks. I now use a screw driver to lever them apart but have found that isn't fool proof either.

My front Clear: Orignally it
My front Clear: Orignally it was just a clear, now i got some work done to it and theres one large U shape zip covering probaly 2/3;s of the clear, which we needed i can un zips and pull up. I love it air flow through a hot cabin can be real real refreshing on those summer days....I orignally wanted two smaller ones, but chose with the one larger due to the fact all the new stiching would take away more vision then one large one.
Mine i think are slightly tinted.....have no issue love em

Product
I am making some myself at the moment. My supplier is selling me the plastic for $20.00 per mtr. Not sure where it is from, can easily find out though. I am making some tempory ones for a hire boat. Pretty easy really. Let me know if you want more information on the product. Might save you some cash after the boat purchase. Nice rig by the way. Cheers

Clears
Colour of material wise the clear is better but make sure you go for the heavier grade ie thicker material. Epecially in low light and nightime you get the best visual.
Two U shape windows are better than one and roled up/strapped up to the top the go.

hey mate.canning motor
hey mate.
canning motor trimmers in maddington is a gun on boats, 80% of his work.
just had a mate do his northshore and done a very good job, you just have to be very clear on what you want, then you cant complain when he dose it his way.
on the color, my mate went tinted, yer it looks good for now, but give it a short time and get a bit of grime on them and its going to be harder to see out of for sure, i would go clear.
make sure you get plenty of head room, 4-6' higher than you and the bimmini is big enough to get your head out and look/talk around to other boats while driving, this also was noted once the northshore hit the water(unless you go for zipped window side clears)
on another note, we were out in the river the other night and the tinted makes it harder to see as well..
good luck mate
