Bit puzzled

In the latest hot bites there's a dhuie on page 51 now the wording says this dhuie bottomed out 25kg scales, and at a guess was close to 30kg. Now im sure if I was holding a 30kg dhuie out in front of me I would be straining a little, it also says that weight was gilled and gutted, I wish I had those scales as some of my dhuies would have topped the 50kg mark,Im not sure but this must be the wrong pic ,get a copy and have a look see what you reckon...

I thought 30kg dhuie would have been close to some kind of record considering it was gilled as well.

Had a look at the pic in question today.........I think it must be a mistake/misprint - should've read pounds not kilograms.

Thu, 2008-05-01 19:11

yeah well if the fish is 1.57m long and hes holding it just under his chin, ill give him what say 30cm for his head, then its off the ground by atleast another 30cm so add 60cm and 1.57m, and it makes that bloke what, say 2.17 cm, highly bl00dy unlikely

mmmm

Fri, 2008-05-02 14:02

yeh its quiet a touchy one isnt it some of the fish weights u see in magazines and papers and stuff.... such as a 4kg mangrove jack that was 50cms long???? few snapper sinkers in its guts maybe?? anyone such as jay and pilbarabrad that live north will have caught heaps of jacks to that mark and i think they would agree that a fat 50cm jack might go 2.5kg at most???? and yeh the 20kg mack held at arms length that would really be 8-10kg... always the same.. everyone loves a brag but sometimes its just ridiculous haha

Fri, 2008-05-02 16:43

Dhuies can be a hard one to judge on length alone. Some are long and lean and other are built like "sumo's".

Kasey 24kg dhuie was how long, I cant remember but I think arround 105cm. My PB dhuie went 112cm but only weighed 21kg.

The dhuie in question, how long is that one. If you shut its gob and pushed its neck back I reckon you could knock off 20cm to its measured length easy. Still and outstanding fish and could of weighed 25kg if it was a thick one.

I have also been told of 30kg dhuies from days gone by so anything is possible.

LET'S CLEAR A FEW THINGS UP!!!

Mon, 2008-05-05 13:22

Hi All,

THE PICTURE IN HOTBITE IS THE WRONG ONE AND THE CORRECT ONE WILL BE PUBLISHED NEXT MONTH!

I'm from Whitey's Tackle and the dhuie in question bottomed out two sets of scales! YES the scales were 25KG and the 30kg mark was only an estimation as the fish was already gilled and gutted!

As for the length (1.57m), i didnt measure it myself but the angler assures me it was!

never the less this fish was one of the biggest dhuies i have seen and a very memorable capture!

Cheers all,

Whitey

My grandfather was a professional fisherman in cervantes and over the years managed a couple of fish topping the 30kg mark!

But that was many years ago when they were alot more common, i believe this recent fish will probably be the biggest in a long long time!

Yes Mako it was caught off

Yes Mako it was caught off bunbury and im guessing its real as its a pending state record and the angler must have sufficient evidence of the size of the fish to apply for the record.
