Albany Locals? Weather thoughts
Submitted by Piggy on Thu, 2026-01-01 12:02
Heading down to Albany next Tuesday for a week. Tossing up whether to take the bigger boat so I can get out deep or just the tinny for crabs and squid.
Any of the Albany locals can tell me their thoughts on next weeks weather? To me it looks pretty good wind wise but swell is an issue. Would I be able to get out deep?
Appreciate any help

Hey Piggy When I go out
Hey Piggy
When I go out wide down here, 24ft Caribbean, i usually wait for the second day of light winds. As the ocean takes a while to calm down out wide.
Monday is looking primo and Tues/Wed pretty good too. Wed Arvo looks like the wind will be picking up.
But also I can count on one hand the number of times the forecast has been accurate.
The reality is it is always a bit of a gamble down here.

Appreciate the response. I'm not arriving until late on Tuesday so will just keep an eye on the weather. I've got a 615 ally now, not a huge boat but not small but I don't go out in shit conditions haha I'm pretty fair weathered these days haha
Thanks Mate!

I went down recently
I was down there 28 - 31st Weather was no good for my little boat... Of course the day I leave it was very good. It was really good from 4am - 700am not enough time to warrany heading out... And yes I agree that the weather reports do not work down there... Its a play it by ear scenario I think

Can somone tell me the best ramop to launch to head out? We launched from the albany boat ramp. Emu point... its very shallow there. I looked at the little beach ramp it looks the best. Thoughts?

You guys are off your heads if you don't get out in this weather window.
This is as good as it gets in summer.
I don't see the big swell, so just get out and enjoy.
