just buy a shimano sss sonic (i think that wat they are called). 7 foot 2-4 kg or 3-5 kg. full graphite great little rods and there about $60 now i think. with the savings you can get some cheap braid ( i use finns 6lb 135 yards for $30-$40 then just put some cheap mono backing on.)

i'm using a fireblood 2500

i'm using a fireblood 2500 and the raider 7' rod, mainly use it for trout fishing down south in the dams, i use some pretty light lures and get them out pretty far with it, i got the rod for about $130-150 at one stage, you may be able to get one for $100 or so, would work great with the 3000 in hillarys

few ideas

Couple of random thoughts Matt:

- you will definately notice the difference in the distance you can cast; the accuracy of your cast and the sensitivity that you'll get when using a lighter rod in the 1-3kg range.

- if you've got line on the 3000 that is suited for the 3-5kg then it might be a bit heavy for breaming, especially if it's towards the 5kg end... things like casting distance, line visibility underwater, the weight of the line influencing the action of the light bream lures etc...

- but if you're only going breaming on the odd occasion that you head up to Moore River you might consider going for a 2000 reel with lighter braid on it and using it on the 3-5kg rod? That size reel should still match the rod okay and would give you the positives that come with the lighter line and a slightly smaller reel, and the rod should be fine considering the frequency its being used for that type of fishing.
