add one to russ's tally...

this guy stress tested some knots... weighed in exactly at 15lb and caught on 15lb line.

fun metro catch for me last night on half a herring.

was busy googling posts on here on how to process a shark and realised i forgot to gut it immediately (was about 2hrs after capture )... i did bleed it straight away but i read gutting was more important?

anyway, in the freezer now, i guess i will try thawing out in milk/water/salt mix in a few weeks. anyone hot smoke shark? that might mask any odour as well.

will be putting a sharp filleting knife on the shopping list, first time filleting one i did make a little bit of mess.

another question - if i gut and bleed them, can i leave them refrigerated or in a ice slurry and fillet the next day? and when gutting do i need to remove the gut lining straight away or can that be done later? be nice to get some sleep before playing with knives....

 Interdorsal was forty

Interdorsal was forty something cm and total length was somewhere between 1.1 and 1.2m. I didn't try and measure accurately. Should a shark that size be heavier? It's possible i had the tail on the ground and didn't realise it. Only shark I've caught bigger was a big gummy when I was kid at 1.48m total length and I'm pretty sure the weight was 12 or 14kg. Cant remember. So don't think this could be over 10.

Ice

Once you have gutted it and removed the brown strip along the spine is ok to fillet it next day. In fact its easier as it allows the flesh to set and harden up making it better to get even thickness fillets.

Is that a little making. Bit

Is that a little making. Bit hard to tell with the nose cut off.

Would have been fun with the line your running.

Don't think you would need to speak in milk. Just test a bit first before messing around. Quite often when thawing it you will find as I have the impurities will come out as well but not always

Added another shot without cropped nose.

Not an expert, welcome identification experts! I still have the head if there is a tell tale character to look for.

It was fun alright. Did the old mental battle of do i or don't I increase the drag as she went off knowing there was a bunch of rock around.

Black tip

Looks like a black tip whaler

Better if you freeze it for a week or so before eating
